i know this probably won’t do much, let alone anything at all, but i’m sorry for the stress this site has caused you and so many other creators here. i’m not asking for you to stick around on here, but i hope you know just how meaningful you and your art have been on here. you’re amazing. /pos
Hey, this ask has done a lot more than you would think. Thank you, you are very sweet. <3
I've kind of made up my mind about what I'm gonna do for a while now, but I've simply been... too busy and overwhelmed to take the time to let you guys know. I'm not going to delete my tumblr, there's just. Too much here that I don't want to lose.
So far the game plan is: keep my tumblr. But do not upload anymore art or writing on it - not because it's gonna get scraped, because it was already getting scraped anyway, AI company deal or not. It's pretty much unavoidable at this point, unfortunately. I simply do not trust Tumblr with my data, if they're going to sell EVERYTHING, including private messages and such, so I'm not going to give it anything worthwhile to profit off of. Instead, I'm going to start uploading my art exclusively on Ao3, for now. I'll answer any asks I receive here on there too, as well. I'll figure some kind of system out. 🤔
The cool thing about uploading to Ao3 is that anyone subscribed to my profile or to the containment series I will make will get a notification anytime I upload something new. Having my art and writing in one place is likely going to be more convenient for you guys too, since you won't have to move across platforms to get the full experience. 😄It'll be different... but a platform getting too greedy for its own good won't stop me from finding ways to share my stories with y'all. I'll just find another solution.
(I've also been entertaining the idea of joining or making my own Discord server but. That one is a little more delicate. The idea of joining a server that has hundreds of members like a lot of this fandom's servers have, just. Makes me break into hives, lmao. (I am in the Ghost in the Machine fic server. I muted it an hour into joining, it was way too intense for me. |'D) That is way too many people, I simply cannot handle it. I'd be way more comfortable in a smaller group with a less rapid-fire rate of posting and conversation. I am also. Very picky about which servers I join, which makes asking for recommendations doubly awkward when I shoot them all down, haha... And making my own... Err, I can hardly keep up with a server I helped create for another fandom and mod for, I don't think I could handle two of them - I would need other people to handle the moderation for me, and I wouldn't trust just anyone to be a mod. I'd need to know them well enough to know I could trust them, and I... do not really know anyone in this fandom well enough to do that, sadly. I take server moderation very seriously, as someone who has had experience modding for forums back before social media was a thing. I do not know if that would make for a fun experience for everyone, and anyone who hasn't known that kind of supervised experience. It is comforting to me. It may be intimidating for others. So that's still a very hand-wavy, 'eehhhh' kind of thing still.)
All of this to say, that this isn't the last you'll see from me, far from it. I'll restrict my creative output to Ao3 for the foreseeable future, and I'll let you guys on here know when I make a new upload, so those of you who do not have an Ao3 account know when something new has happened.
So there you have it. 😊
#also just so y'all know#i AM working on the next CotA chapter#i am. about 40% done.#i needed to take a breather after that massive last upload and then life just. fucking tackled me lmao.#in order: my folks put up the house for sale. i have spent half of my weekends having to evacuate the house at a moment's notice.#so prospective buyers could visit. not very good conditions to write in. too stressful.#then i caught fucking covid for the very first time and had a BAD TIME. it took me weeks to recover. couldn't climb stairs for a while.#i think i still have episodes of brain fog 5 months later because of it. my body was really weird for a while after.#(writing is still a little hard after that. but i think i am slowly overcoming it. hopefully it doesn't show too much in the new chapter.)#random unexplained symptoms and more i will not share. then the holiday season came and went.#then we finally got serious buyers after months of having no-shows yank our chains and expulse us from our home for nothing.#the house is sold. then came the cleaning out and packing. we are nearly done and i am finally coming up to the surface to breathe a little#we are moving in a month's time so i might be a while before i feel stable enough to start posting a little more regularly once more.#so this year i may have to give mermay a pass. to my ENORMOUS chagrin. it's just not in the cards for me this year. ;___;)#but we are getting there. we're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. and i am confident enough to say it's not a train.

I actually leave the room to go see Matt. I knock twice on the door and he opens it, smiling when he sees me and pulling me inside with one of his hands.
-Nick got into that crazy story of Chris and I being in love with each other, again. -I say, throwing myself onto his bed and staring at the ceiling.
-He'll never give up. -Matt laughs and lies down next to me.
I take a deep breath and let it out slowly. I let my face turn until it meets Matt's and stare at him in confusion.
-Chris thinks you and I have something. -I say, arching an eyebrow and waiting for him to react.
Matt's eyes widen and he stares at the ceiling again, thinking. Finally, seeming to have turned on a light above his head, he stands up and quickly picks up his phone.
-Stay here, I'll be right back. -He says, with a suspicious smile on his face, but I decide to do as he says.
I took off my sneakers and lay down more comfortably on the bed, pulling my own phone out of my pocket and starting to watch tiktoks while I waited for whatever it was I was waiting for.

-Chris thinks you and I have something.
The girl says, confused. I stare at the ceiling, trying to think of some reason why Chris would see her as my girlfriend and what could make him so stressed that he irritates her every day. And then a light appeared at the end of my tunnel of thoughts. I came out of the bedroom and found Nick on one of the couches in the living room, Chris was on the other, so I texted Nick so as not to attract Chris's attention and we went up to his room.
-What's up, Matt? -He asks, looking at me with confusion and slight irritation.
My smile gets even wider.
-Our dear Chris has a crush on our new friend. -I say with my arms crossed and laugh.
-What? WHAT?! I mean, I always imagined that he treated her like a child when he wanted to get attention from his crushes at school, but how did you come to that conclusion?
Nick crosses his arms, thoughtful and eager for the gossip.
-She came into my room saying that Chris had said that he thinks we have something.
-It was in the living room, I was there, and he said sarcastically that she was going to your room and called you her “little boyfriend”. After she asked if he was jealous, he shut his mouth.
Nick and I looked at each other, without a reaction good enough to describe. At that moment, a gear turned in my head and I knew I had to help Chris see this through.
-We need to get them talking. -Nick says quickly. I agreed, looking around and thinking of a perfect opportunity.
-We could lock them both in the house. -I say, letting my intrusive thoughts take over.
-That's actually a great idea.
Nick and I look at each other confused, but excited.
-We could go out early tomorrow and get all the keys, and she could sleep in your room tonight just so we can tell Chris about it and see how he reacts. -Nick explains everything excitedly and I go along with him, wondering what else we could do and if anything could go wrong.
-It has to work. -I say, taking a deep breath.
-We're going to get this couple together. -Nick puts his hands on my shoulders and forces me to look into his eyes, which are comforting.
I nodded and we left. I returned to my room to find her lying comfortably on my bed and decided to start the plan.
-Hey, can you sleep here tonight? I know you usually stay at Nick's, but I want to talk to you and watch something. -I say, running my hand over the back of my neck in nervousness.
-Sure, Matt, no problem. -She replies with a cute smile.
-Great. -I replied, smiling.
I lie back down next to her and the girl rests her head on my shoulder, watching tiktoks. I turn my body slightly in her direction, playing with a lock of her hair, distracted by my own thoughts.

Matt and I had been lying together without exchanging a word since he came back. It wasn't bad, for me at least, it was comfortable to know that we could just enjoy each other's company without too much effort. Unfortunately, it didn't take long for my peace to end once again. Two knocks on the door were heard and there was no waiting time before it was opened.
-Ew. -Chris says, looking at us. -Anyway, Nick and I want McDonald's, stop being disgusting and let's go.
Matt sits on his bed, looking at his brother with a suspicious smile, and then gets up, holding out a hand to help me. I lock my phone and accept the help, then get up and look at Chris, who is staring at us with a frown.
As usual, Nick and I sat in the back seats while Matt drove and Chris sat in the passenger seat. I hummed to the songs along the way and soon we arrived at the drive-through.
-What do you want? -Matt asks, opening the window.
-Nuggets, medium fries and a large Pepsi. -Chris says, using his phone.
-Dr. Pepper and large fries. -Nick says, looking at me to make me say what I want.
-I don't want anything, I'm fine. -I say, with a shy smile.
The idea of coming here came out of the blue and I really wasn't expecting to eat anything just yet.
-You sure? -Matt looks at me confused and I just nod.
After taking our orders, Matt stops the car in a parking lot and they decide to record a video. It was late at night and the place was empty, which is normal for them and strange for me. Nick went out to set up the camera and asked Chris to ask questions on their Instagram account.
-Chris, give me your phone, she's going to read the questions today. -Nick takes the device from his brother, hands it to me and I look at him with a huge smile.
-What? But she shouldn't even be here, why is she going to read the questions? -Chris arches his eyebrow in confusion and a little irritation, which makes Matt laugh and exchange a quick glance with Nick, who then rolls his eyes.
-People who watch us like her, and so do we, you're just being annoying, so shut up. -Nick replies, running a hand through his hair and making me laugh.
We started recording the intro and I soon chose a few questions while the three of them were discussing something.
-Ok, would you rather be stuck on an island with someone you hate or completely alone? -I asked, turning my gaze to Matt.
-Alone, for sure. -He replies, thinking about the question.
-Alone, I'd end up killing the person I hate anyway. -Nick says, making me laugh.
-If the person I hate is her, I'd rather be alone. -Chris replies, pointing a finger in my direction and taking a sip of his Pepsi.
-Chris, you don't even hate her, you're just afraid to confess your feelings. -Nick looks at him with an arched eyebrow.
Matt looks out of the window, not wanting to give his opinion, but with an obvious smile on his face. I just stare at Nick as if he's crazy and Chris grimaces, rolling his eyes and changing the subject, without even answering his older brother's provocation.
It's strange, he always retorts when it's about me, but maybe he just doesn't want to cause chaos during a video. We spent forty minutes recording and apart from the parts where Chris insisted on testing my patience, I had a lot of fun.
It was late when we got back to the boys' house and as soon as we were all in the living room, Matt left his car key on the counter and looked at me with a smile, walking towards me and wrapping me in a hug. I don't know where all this affection came from, but I wasn't going to complain.
-What do you want to see today? -He asked, stroking my hair.
I could have sworn I saw a smile on Nick's face when he walked past us both to sit on the couch, but I decided to ignore it.
-Hm, can we marathon Brooklyn 99? It's been a while since I've watched it. -I asked, moving away just enough to look him in the face.
-Are you going to sleep in the living room? -Chris asks, confused, looking at us with his phone in hand.
-She's sleeping with me tonight. -Matt replies, exchanging a quick glance with Nick. This is starting to get suspicious.
-You're sleeping together? -Chris asked, with his eyebrows raised in confusion.
-Yes, is there a problem? -Matt asks teasingly.
-No, it's just that she always sleeps with Nick. -Chris replies, running a hand over his hair.
-Well, tonight she's sleeping with me. -That's the last thing Matt says before he takes me by the hand and interlocks our fingers, pulling me into his room.
As soon as the boy closes the door, I look at him in confusion.
-What was that? -I cross my arms, knowing that the way he and Nick had looked at each other several times during the day, the way he was treating me more affectionately than usual, and sending teasing hints to Chris was a little different.
-I don't know what you're talking about. -He replies innocently, picking up a set of pajamas and leaving the room with a smile, leaving the door open.
I let out a sigh and took off my jacket, leaving it leaning against the desk chair and hearing footsteps in the hallway.
-Hi. -Chris says, appearing in the doorway and looking around.
-Matt's in the bathroom. -I answer, quickly and simply, putting my phone on the nightstand.
-I know. -He says, giving me a confused look.
I wait for him to say something else and the boy takes a few steps forward, catching up with me.
-So you and Matt are... together? -He asks, with a brief pause between the words.
-Would it matter to you if we were? -I ask back, crossing my arms out of patience.
-No, I just wanted to... you know what? Forget it. It doesn't matter. -The brunette fumbles over his words, getting stressed and running a hand through his hair before huffing angrily and leaving the room.
I don't even need to think about how strange that was considering it came from Chris and he's nothing but crazy at this point. But I confess that a small part of me was curious as to why he had come to ask me about Matt and I. It shouldn't be a big deal, but what’s got into him that he asked me instead of his own brother?
I grabbed my pajamas from my backpack, which I had brought from Nick's room to Matt's, and waited sitting on the bed until the boy showed up. As soon as he walked through the door with a smile and was ready for bed, I made my way to the bathroom and locked the door.
I changed my clothes and then looked in the mirror, not liking the way my reflection looked. I washed my face, brushed my teeth and fixed my hair. I took a deep breath, tucking a lock of hair behind my ear and turning my body slightly to make sure everything was in place.
As soon as I came out of the bathroom, to my surprise, Chris was walking down the hall towards Matt's room. Again. Without saying anything, I just followed my own path and entered the room, ignoring Chris's gaze and sitting down next to Matt on the bed.
-What is it, Chris? -Matt asked calmly, looking at his brother leaning against the doorframe.
I stared at him in confusion, leaning on the headboard and crossing my legs. Matt was in front of me with his legs off the bed and lying down slightly, with one arm supporting his body and his eyes now focused on his younger brother.
-I need you to drop me off somewhere tomorrow. -The boy replies, taking his phone out of his pocket.
-Where? -Matt sits back down on the bed, staring at him in confusion.
-A restaurant, I'm taking a girl out.
Chris lets a smile slip from his face, I must be going completely mad but it seemed very sarcastic and he seemed to stare into the depths of my soul as the words left his mouth. I rolled my eyes, thinking it was funny that he wanted some kind of reaction from me.
-I don't know if you know this, but it's rude to force people to go out with you. -I say, watching the smile that was on his face disappear as quickly as it appeared.
-I'm not forcing anything, she wants to. -He replies, shrugging.
-Of course she does. -I let out a sarcastic laugh.
-It's not as if it's difficult, girls want to go out with me all the time, and they have lots of reasons, now you? I don't know what Matt sees in you, you're just a waste of time, you may be cute, but you're so boring and weird that it doesn't make sense for anyone to want you.
Chris crossed his arms as he spoke, completely ignoring the fact that his brother was there too. He had a victorious look on his face for having taken me by surprise with his speech. What an asshole.
-So you think I'm cute? -I ask, with a smirk.
Matt's eyes widen, as he looks between me and Chris. It looked like he was going to take out a bowl of popcorn at any moment, he didn't even try interrupting us.
This time it was Chris who was taken by surprise, and I saw his eyes widen a little before he uncrossed his arms and stepped away from the doorframe, taking a few steps into the room.
-Of all the things I've said, you've only heard this? -He scoffs. -Of course you’d be a stupid narcissist too, I don't know what I expected, honestly. -Chris gestures as he speaks, pulling out Matt’s gamer chair and sitting down in it, looking at me as if he's bored.
-No, I also heard the part you said about Matt, that looks like jealousy to me. -I smile even more, finding the situation funny now.
-Jealous? Of what? You two can fucking make out or whatever you want, I've got nothing to do with this shit. -Chris rolls his eyes.
I looked at Matt, who was trying to hold in his laughter, but still didn't seem ready to say anything that would make this little fight end. I, on the other hand, had had enough of listening to Chris and just wanted to spend some more time with my friend before going to sleep like normal people do.
-Matt and I have nothing but friendship, not that I need to give you any satisfaction, but can you leave us alone now and go back to talking to the poor girl who's going to have her heart broken in a few weeks? -I say, my voice more serious this time.
Chris looks back and forth between me and Matt for a few seconds. Matt just nods in confirmation of what I'm saying, leaving his brother a little confused, since until now he thought we were together. I don't know where that thought came from, but at least Matt is an amazing person, and I don't feel a bit bad knowing that he thought he'd be with me like that.
The look of confusion on Chris's face was very evident to everyone in the room, but he just shook his head in denial and left without saying another word after that, closing the door with some unnecessary force on the way out.
-Why didn't you say anything? -I asked Matt, throwing a pillow at him.
-I was enjoying watching you argue. -He replies, laughing.
We talked for a few more long minutes and watched a few episodes of Brooklyn 99 together until my eyes got heavy and we decided to go to sleep. Matt turned off the light and left a kiss on my forehead before turning to one side of the bed and me to the other.

Chapter 39: Running With the Pack
Wednesday, December 22nd. 5:37 PM
As you leaned closer to the dark tunnel that had once haunted you, you took a deep breath and stared into the vast darkness. You had run through it so many times in your dreams, crawled out of it as you were chased by a giant wolf about ready to turn you to shreds, broken your nails as you dug your fingers through the dirt and now, now you would slide down, and walk all the way to the wolf’s den, willingly.
What once had been scary, keeping you awake at night in fear of going back to it, was now drawing you in, a magnetism so strong it was almost irresistible. You took a deep breath and then smiled, greeting the darkness like an old friend rather than a foe, and letting yourself fall down the dark rabbit hole that would take you to the wolf. But not just any wolf, to Moony. Your best friend Moony. Your Moony.
The beautiful wolf you had had the grace of witnessing once before you had to run from it, the large creature with claws as sharp as honed blades and fangs that could pierce skin as one might tear through a fragile sheet of paper, eyes so sharp they could follow you through the forest before you even had enough time to think of an escape route– but they were kind too. Golden and dangerous and beautiful. They shone with the kindness of your friend, of the man behind the sleek coat of fur that shimmered with the moonlight. The eyes of the soft-spoken boy that smelled of chocolate and old books, of the one that had been kind enough to show you through the school and cheered you up after a rough day after merely days of meeting you.
They called you insane for throwing your wand on the floor as the wolf advanced on you, but you had not been looking at the wolf then, you had been looking at him, at your best friend. That had gotten you almost killed, seeing the beauty in chaos might be a noble trait, but a dangerous one nonetheless.
You now knew what a terrible idea that had been, Remus had not spared a chance to remind you of your recklessness, and perhaps you needed it, being mesmerised by the wolf was not an excuse for getting murdered. Either way, you’d be lying if you said the prospect of seeing the wolf up close –even as Vixen– wasn’t exciting.
“Sirius?” you whispered, he was a few steps ahead, walking with his wand held high and a Lumos charm. James was just a few steps behind and Peter had gotten ahead as Wormtail, to make sure Remus was still Remus when you got there.
“Yeah, Luv?” he asked.
“Are we too far?” you asked and revised your clock “It’s 6:00 pm already, and the moon comes out in about a quarter of an hour.”
You had never walked through the tunnel, you had only ran through it, and you would be lying if you said that it didn’t feel much longer now than it did back then. Not that the path hadn’t felt eternal while you were running and throwing spells at Moony, but you were rather certain that that had to do a lot more with your own perception of time than time itself.
“We’re less than 5 minutes away,” James responded, he too had been keeping an eye on the clock, trying to make sure that things would be alright.
Sirius slowed his pace until he reached beside you and whispered, “Nox,” over his wand, he placed a hand over your shoulders, drawing you close to him as he pointed deeper into the tunnel, “See that light reflection?” he asked. You nodded in response. “It’s the door you blew up last time you were here.”
You looked at him with a frown and then back at the place he was pointing at, Remus must have told him, you realised as you saw it, and you picked up your pace, almost sprinting towards it. Sirius turned to James who gave him a shrug and the two boys ran behind you.
You reached the door just under two minutes later, and you brushed your hand over the hinges, “You fixed it?” you asked as you turned to the boys, who were just behind you.
“Peter and I did, when we brought Remus over after the last moon,” James responded.
“It was in an awful condition,” you replied, remembering the Bombarda you had used and how many of the pieces of the door had flown about the room, you were pretty sure you had turned it to shreds.
“Yeah,” James agreed with a diverted smile.
You looked at the door a little closer now and located the thick bar of metal that held it in place, you brought your hand under it and started pushing it up. There was a click and the door snapped open, Remus was on the other side, he was leaning on a bed, bouncing one of his legs up and down while looking right ahead. He turned to you shortly after and seemed relieved to see everyone there. Peter was still Wormtail, and he was sleeping on a worn-out pillow on the floor. He hadn’t been sleeping well that week, staying up late to work on the final projects he had left for the last minute (It had been all of them).
You walked forwards and sat beside Remus on the edge of the bed, “How are we feeling?”, you asked. James sat beside you and Sirius had plopped down on the floor, staring up at the three of you.
“Fantastic!” he said sarcastically.
You pushed him with your shoulder lightly, having him crash against James, “Don’t be such a downer.”
“You can still leave.”
You let yourself fall back into the mattress. “No thanks.”
Sirius laughed from the floor and considered whether it would be a good or a bad idea to jump on top. Perhaps it wouldn’t be too clever, at least not with how nervous Remus was.
Remus sighed with your reply, “But what if it doesn’t work?”
“It will,” Sirius reassured.
“But what if it doesn’t?”
“Then we go for plan B,” you responded as if it was the simplest course of action.
“What if you’re not fast enough?”
“Werewolves don’t eat animals,” you said.
“No, but we can kill them,” Remus muttered as he remembered the time he had killed a squirrel that had walked close to his cage when he was 7. He had cried about it for weeks and even asked his parents to bury her in the garden. He called her Juliette, since his mom had been reading Romeo and Juliette to lull him to sleep back then and he knew she would die in the end.
“Remus!” you whined as you bumped your knee into his, “Drop the negativity, would you?”
It’s not that you didn’t have doubts of your own, but it was easier to ignore them and be brave about it if he was not repeating all the ways that things could go wrong over and over again.
“Sorry,” he said.
James let himself fall on the bed, imitating your earlier action, “I’m sure it will work,” he said, “Besides you’ve been doing research about it, right Vix?”
“I think I read more about werewolves and wolves this past month than I did for classes,” you sighed.
“I can confirm that,” Sirius said, he’d been going to the library with you too, and he’d read just as much.
You had also talked to Damocles and asked him about the potion, to use as a failsafe in case the plan didn’t work, he said he was still working on it but that he hoped he’d have it ready at some point next year. He had also given you all his notes on werewolves since you had asked if he had anything other than the ones he’d given you at first, and while those had been useful to learn about Moony, none of them helped you either prove or refute your theory.
“Right,” Remus said as he started bouncing his leg again. And then he bent down a little bit. When he looked up at Sirius, his eyes were completely golden. James stood up and turned into Prongs in the blink of an eye, standing defensively as he stared at Remus. Remus was now clawing at his own shirt to try and take it off, last time he had ripped it to shreds and he didn’t want the same thing to happen to this one. Sirius stood forward and helped him get it off.
You saw, this time even more than the last, how his skin started to rip, but you also got a small glimpse of his muscly back, and while the potion had already worn off, you’d be lying if you said he didn’t have a very nice and defined one.
“Turn,” he said as he placed his hands on his pants. You instantly turned your head to the wall.
“Into Vixen!” Sirius said, almost laughing at your instant reaction. Remus would have laughed too if he hadn’t been busy trying to hold back the cries of pain that threatened to leave his mouth.
“You too,” he said as he looked at Sirius who had placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.
“It’s fine,” Sirius countered. You were already Vixen, and you were still looking at the wall, tail waving restlessly as you heard Remus whimper. “I’ll do it right before you’re Moony.”
“Sirius,” Remus said as he tightened his jaw to hold back another groan and ended up stifling a whimper instead.
“You’re not going to change my mind,” he said as he helped Remus kneel on the floor.
“Sirius.”
“I’ve got it under control.”
But I don’t, Remus thought as he tightened his fist on the floor, scratching the wood with his nails, which were a lot more claws than nails themselves.
“Sirius!”
“Moony, we’ve been through this, just let me help,” Sirius insisted as he tightened his grip on Remus’ shoulder, reassuringly.
Remus huffed and turned to Sirius angrily, his eyes were menacingly golden now. But Sirius held his stare, a reassuring smile on his face as he tightened the grip on his shoulder again and sent Remus a wink. Remus would have scoffed if he’d had the chance, but he ended up just bending over a bit more and letting his head fall over Sirius’s shoulder, who was now helping to hold him up. Remus would be lying if he said he didn’t enjoy the closeness to Sirius. There was something about his hand on his bare back and the feel of his curls crashing against his face, that was dreadfully comforting.
If only he could bask in those feelings at any moment other than when he was about to turn into a fucking werewolf. He couldn’t though, because those hands, those curls and those beautiful lips of his belonged to someone else. To the pretty fox waving her tail desperately on the bed as she struggled to not turn her head. But then he felt it, the Wolf gnawing at him and taking his agency away, locking him up in the cage of his mind, his last ounce of control slipping away.
“Siri-us…” His voice broke near the end. And you couldn’t take it anymore you turned your head to look at the two boys and barked as Sirius. Your best friend’s face was already turning into a snout, but Sirius looked awfully calm as he held him between his arms.
You barked again, now more desperately and jumped towards Sirius, pulling at his shirt with your snout. Remus tried to push you away so that you weren’t that close to the wolf when he came about but his hand was no longer a hand anymore and his paw ended up accidentally bopping your head. You looked at him reproachfully and barely managed to make out his wince. You barked again, and this time Sirius actually listened, he turned into a Padfoot and seconds later, Moony let out a shrieking howl, no wonder that’s what they called this place.
Moony stood straight and imposing, last time you had tried to escape from him as a fox, you hadn’t had time to actually see him, too busy running the hell away. But this time around, you could see how much more bigger and imposing he looked to Vixen, as if he wasn’t imposing enough to you already.
At first, Moony seemed disoriented, but then he spotted Padfoot, who stood just a few feet from him and he howled again, this time around a much more playful one. The black dog imitated him and then Moony jumped his way, raising his front paws and letting them fall over Pads who barked happily. Moony was nibbling on Pads’ left ear while the dog continued to bark excitedly. And then, he spotted you.
He stopped the nibbling and tilted his head to the side as if analysing the intruder. He narrowed his eyes at you and bared his teeth, growling lightly as if telling you to step away, he felt Padfoot tense underneath as he too turned to you, but the dog had a worried face instead of a menacing one.
Every single instinct on your fox self was telling you to run. To find a small nook in a wall and crawl inside of it like you had done the previous moon. Alarms blaring in your brain loudly urging you to step away, to pull back, to hide. But you held your stance, you knew the wolf was trying to scare you because he didn’t recognize you, and it was his immediate reaction. He probably remembered you from the last moon too, the fox that had gotten away.
But this time around you weren’t planning to run from him, you’d held your stance until he leaned forward curiously, or until he did it intending to eat. You pulled your head a little higher and he barked at Padfoot, a simple question: «Who is she?»
Padfoot barked a much simpler answer in return «A friend».
The wolf narrowed his eyes at Padfoot now and slipped his paws off the black dog’s back. You were so used to how big Padfoot was in comparison to Vixen, that seeing the wolf standing right beside him, with the staggering difference between Pads and Moony –who was much bigger and much more imposing– was a little daunting, but you fought the urge to flee, imposing yourself over Vixen’s more animal side.
The wolf tilted his head again and started walking in your direction, one paw after the other, looking every bit like the regal beast of the night it was. You found yourself resisting the urge to step back again, looking at the wolf and tilting your own head slightly to the side. You didn’t say a thing but it was clear what you meant «I’m not afraid of you».
Moony snarled again, baring his teeth at you «Your heartbeat says otherwise».
You barked this time «Try me». Padfoot intervened this time around and barked a warning to you. And you held your tongue from barking anything else, regardless you were looking at Moony attentively, keeping your stance as calm as possible.
The wolf walked close enough to tower over you, and you stood still, he leaned his head down, leaning on his front paws to level it with Vixen’s, and he stared.
You held his stare again, a lot calmer now that you could see his eyes, there he is, hidden beneath the fur, your friend. You could always see Remus through Moony’s eyes. The wolf noticed your change in demeanour, not understanding why the closer he was the calmer you seemed to be. You leaned your head forward a little and bumped your snout with his much bigger one in a teasing manner and he pulled back with a frown.
«Careful», Padfoot barked. You ignored him, deciding to tease the wolf a little further as you jumped forward and bit one of his legs playfully.
Moony looked as scandalised as a wolf could, his features conveying a mix of confusion and irritation in the face of such unexpected audacity. How could this tiny little animal tease him like such, he was sure he could split you in half in one bite. Not that he wanted to, he was too curious to do it. Regardless, he reacted like you would expect any apex predator to react when bothered; he used his head to push you away from him, you rolled about half a metre to the side and ended up, belly-facing the ceiling as the wolf stalked towards you and snarled.
Padfoot seemed just about to jump in your defence when Moony threw him a warning look and bared his teeth at him just like he had done to you, now vulnerably underneath him.
Padfoot barked again, «friend» he reminded Moony.
He huffed in return and turned to look at you, your eyes locked with Padfoot’s who seemed to be telling you to stand back, but you knew whatever relationship you managed to develop with Moony forward, strongly depended on how you acted today with him, you had seen how playful he had been to Pads, perhaps you could have a similar experience.
You turned back to look at Moony who was looking at you with curiosity as if he was still trying to decipher your character, and you used one of your paws to hit his snout in a playful manner. He pulled back and snarled, you did it again and barked. When you tried to do it again, he held your paw in between his sharp teeth. Not biting strong enough to break skin.
You heard Prong’s hooves crashing on the floor, as if he was ready to push Moony off of you, but everyone held their place. You had all agreed on a sign, a rather specific scream that foxes could make, and they had to stand back if you didn’t make said sound or they thought danger was imminent.
You, on the other hand, looked like you were having fun as you teased the menacing wolf. You leapt forward enough to lightly bite his snout and he let your paw go in surprise, pulling back again as he stared at you.
What was that? She smelled… familiar.
«Friend?» he barked.
«Friend» Padfoot confirmed.
Moony leaned down closer to you again, his snout close to yours as he took in the way you smelled. He frowned, he was sure he had never been close enough for you to smell like him and yet, you did. Was it some kind of trick? Had you also tricked his friends? He pulled back, and stared, circling around as you turned back on your heels in the most playful of movements and sat on your back legs as an obedient little puppy. Turning your head only to follow the steps of the huge wolf.
The initial urge to run had faded away and now, even the most primal and fox-like part of you was excited to continue playing with the wolf. He barked at you, and you barked back, a polite bark this time around. Eventually, and after circling you a few more times, Moony walked closer to you, leaning from the back and moving his snout close to Vixen’s body.
First, it was close to your neck, then along your back and eventually, he leaned down to smell your belly again, meanwhile, you stood there, patiently letting him do his thing, allowing him to slowly realise you really were a friend. He pushed you to the side with his head and you pushed back. He gave you a warning look and you reluctantly did what he asked. Moving to a different side of the room where he repeated the entire thing again.
Eventually, he stood right in front of you and laid down on his paws, staring at you with his eyes narrowed. You nudged him with your snout, and he gave you a dismissive look. And then you jumped forward and nibbled his ear like he had done to Sirius earlier.
Wormtail turned his small head the other way around, thinking that would be the last straw for Moony. Perhaps you really were stupidly brave. But contrary to his expectation, Moony simply barked in response, clearly diverted. Even Padfoot seemed surprised. And after you bumped your paw against his snout again he reacted. You pulled back and barked yourself.
«Catch me if you can».
Moony barked in response and stood from the ground, chasing after you as you moved around in circles and all over the small room in the shack, crossing over the furniture, the old raggedy sofa, up and down from the bed, under the bed, under the desk that seemed close to falling apart, close to the –now wide open– metal door, under the rundown piano, and many other pieces of furniture laying around.
Eventually, you ran under Padfoot and after Moony tried to also get in between his legs, he too joined the game. Wormtail and Prongs were looking at the whole thing with both incredulous and satisfied looks. Incredulous because Moony –who had been awfully hard to control the last full moons– was playing along the room all merry and bright like a puppy rather than the angry wolf they saw too often. And satisfied, because the plan had clearly worked. Moony had accepted you as part of the pack, in fact, Prongs would even dare say he liked you.  Perhaps as much as Remus liked your human self. He certainly seemed to be enjoying his time as he jumped about chasing you and Sirius as if you were all playing some canine version of tag.
After a while of playing inside the shack, Padfoot barked as he leaned towards the door, Prongs, who had been sitting on his hooves as he lousily watched you play, since he was too big to join the game inside the small room where there was barely enough space for the two big dogs and the small fox to play around, stood up in an instant. And while Prongs –being a stag– did not speak canine, like Moony, Pads and you, it didn’t take a genius to know exactly what Sirius wanted.
Prongs nodded, looking all regal in his Stag form –completely contrasting to his goofy human self– and walked towards the entrance, allowing Sirius to cross the door first and following right behind. You realised the opportunity you had then and decided to make the game a little bit more fun. You walked over to Moony, as casually as you could, and when you had the chance you bit his leg again. He growled at you in response and you took off running.
«Catch me if you can» you barked again and crossed right underneath Prongs, who had merely a second to realise something small and swift was running under his legs and stopped moving entirely, trying to avoid stepping on you. Once you got past him you ran beside Padfoot who gave you a questioning look before turning his head backwards and realising the gigantic wolf stalking behind the two of you, being slowed down by Prongs who was too big for the narrow hall to allow both him and the wolf to pass through.
Padfoot seemed about to panic when he saw the wolf chasing behind you, but when you bit him the same way you had bit the wolf just seconds ago, he realised you were playing, just like you had been inside the shack and started running just beside you, his legs were a lot longer, and he had easily gotten ahead of you. But that didn’t stop you from running as fast as you could, leaving the wolf and the stag behind. Once you reached the end of the tunnel, you crawled your way to the top. It was much easier to do it as a fox, you realised. Perhaps if you had been a fox back then, you wouldn’t have ended up as bruised as you had.
Once you were up though, you saw Padfoot near the entrance, keeping himself there as he watched the Whomping Willow stir about.
«Scared?» You barked.
«Starshine, it’s dangerous» he barked in response.
You are scared then, you thought as you sprinted forward, zigzagging your way out of the willow’s reach and barking at Sirius a short «chicken» as you ran into the forest. You felt unbelievably free, and you were having the time of your life.
Running as Vixen had always been a way for you to feel better, and after last moon, you never thought you’d consider running away while being chased by the same wolf that haunted your dreams would ever be enjoyable, not when you were hiding in the rock and not when you had been pulled by the tail with his mortifyingly strong jaws, and yet, here you were, biting his leg softly and inciting him to chase behind you, as a bIoody game.
The fact that the association made the last moon, of running away from the big bad wolf, was changing so quickly after just hours of officially meeting and playing with Moony was insane. You didn't see running from the wolf as scary anymore, but rather, it was exhilarating. The cold air of the night filled your small lungs as you ran through the crisp and thin layer of snow underneath your paws.
Was it cold? You were having so much fun you didn’t even realise it. You continued running all the way to the forest, not bothering to look back to see if the others had caught up with you, you could still smell them, they were far, but not that much. And if you could smell them, Prongs and Moony, who had the most developed senses in the gang, would definitely be able to find you, if you didn’t run fast enough, that was.
So you kept running, twirling and zigzagging all over the forbidden forest as you did, to try and make sure to leave traces of your scent on as many places as possible, to try and confuse the boys into following fake trails and so you could continue running.
You had just jumped over a dry branch when you felt something push you from the side, you rolled a few metres and took some time to figure out what was going on when you realised Moony was there, looking at you with what could be interpreted as a self-satisfied expression. He’d caught you. He pushed his snout next to your neck since you were still looking at him as you tried to get back on your feet and then howled. A loud, high-pitched sound that reverberated all over the forest.
You barked in response «Congratulations, you won».
He howled again, and you knew what he wanted, and even if you were still on the ground secretly trying to catch your breath –even foxes get tired, you know?– you followed suit. Howling along with the big bad wolf like you were part of his pack. No, you were part of his pack, the precautions had worked, and this? This meant he’d accepted you.
Another howl floated through the wind, it wasn’t far but it wasn’t close either. It’s Padfoot, you realised after hearing the slight give of his voice. You wondered if you would have been able to tell it was Pads if you had been human or if knowing was inherently a fox thing. You sometimes found it fascinating that even though you had been a fox for almost as long as the boys had been their own animagi, there were still so many things for you to discover, perhaps it was because you hadn’t spent as much time as a fox as they had spent as their own animals.
While you had roamed around the grounds of your old school as Vixen a couple of times, you had never really had time to explore that much, let alone to actually interact with other animals like you had done now. Heck, you didn’t even know you could talk with other canines while you were Vixen until a couple of days ago when Padfoot barked something at you and you understood exactly what he meant. It was so shocking to you at that moment that you had instantly turned into a human and accidentally crushed Remus awake.
“Sirius!” you had said, eyes opened like saucers as you stared at your boyfriend turn back into his human form and look at you groggily as he rubbed his eyes, he had been half asleep.
“What is it?”
“You said something to me,” you whispered, “and I understood it.”
Sirius frowned and gave Remus a look, by then you had already half gotten off of him after apologising for crushing him as you turned into yourself and were sitting on the bed as you leaned close to Sirius, your bent legs brushing against Remus’ torso.
“Yeah, you speak canine when you’re Vixen.”
“I what?!”
“You didn’t know?” Remus asked as he placed a hand on your shoulder to get your attention, you turned to him and shook your head slowly as if still considering what he had said.
“I assumed you’d know already,” Sirius said with a shrug. “You even ran when I told you to back on the last moon.”
“Because it was the obvious thing to do…”
“Are you sure you weren’t just understanding canine?”
You swallowed and turned your gaze back to Remus, “You speak canine too?”
He nodded in response, “At least when I’m Moony, I do.”
“You talk to each other?”
“I spent the last moon trying to calm him down while he wanted to pull you out of the rock,” Sirius responded.
“Wait–” you said as you considered the new information the boys had given you. “Does that mean you can talk to other dogs?”
“Yeah,” Sirius said with a nod. “Did you never encounter a fox out in the wild yourself?”
“Well, I– I didn’t stay as a fox too long when I was in my old school. Didn’t have much free time. And I had more roommates.”
“And no cuddle mates,” Sirius joked and yawned, turning back into Padfoot seconds after. He then barked.
Remus gave you a look, “He says we should go back to sleep.”
“Thought you only understood when you were Moony.”
He huffed a laugh, “Doesn’t take a genius to know what Padfoot wants,” he said as he opened his arms out. “Come on, get back here, you have to wake up early tomorrow.”
You laughed as you shook your head and turned back into Vixen. Remus carefully picked you up and placed you back on his chest as Sirius got comfortable himself.
Another bark startled you out of your thoughts and you turned to the side, looking at Padfoot, who had now jumped over Moony to try and throw him off balance. You jumped happily before spotting Prongs already catching up with you three and you barked at him as you jumped around a little, exploring the small clearing you had ended up in as Moony and Padfoot continued playing around themselves.
Being smaller, you had gotten tired a lot faster than the other two dogs and you had found a small nook on top of a fallen branch where you had leaned in to watch. Prongs had joined their playing at some point too, and they had gone on small “races” against each other, going back and forth from one spot to another. Prongs would jump on his back hooves in a much less regal way than before whenever he won while Moony and Padfoot would howl as loudly as they could when either of them got there first.
Moony tried to get you to join them on a race at some point and you just barked back something along the lines of «Not stupid enough to think I could win». Which had the wolf pull you from the tail like he had done last time –a lot softer now– and caused you to fall on the soft mossy floor.
You barked at him in reproach and he just barked again, telling you to join their race.
«Play!»
«I’ll lose»
«Play!!!»
You huffed in response, a tired sigh but in fox version. He barked again, and looked at you while peeling his eyes open a little. Was he doing the puppy eyes at you? The big, scary werewolf, making puppy eyes so you continued playing with him? Who would have thought?
You tilted your head to the side a couple of times and eventually nodded, walking towards the branch they had all deemed the finish line and prepared, Padfoot barked and you ran as fast as you could, jumping through branches and pulling through as fast as you could. But Prongs had already gotten ahead and Moony was running as fast as he could to try and catch up with him. Prongs was the largest of the pack and that helped him easily outrun most of your friends, that didn’t mean Moony was no match for him, even compared to other wolves, he was huge and incredibly clever.
The real match for you was against Sirius, who was not as fast but certainly a lot larger, if it were a race towards a specific point rather than a circle, perhaps you could have outmanoeuvred him by finding smaller places and shortcuts through the forest that he didn’t have access to, but in this case, it really was a matter of raw speed and he was far larger than you were.
Regardless you were pushing through as much as you could, jumping and crawling around to catch up with him. He wasn’t too far ahead, in fact, you could probably bite his tail if you jumped towards it, and you were so focused on trying to level up that you barely noticed the giant stag running top speed straight towards you. Padfoot veered to the side and you jumped towards the other, only to be –in the most literal sense– caught in the air by Moony.
His head pushed you to the ground and then grabbed onto the skin in the back of the neck as he picked up even more speed to outrun Prongs.
You barked in protest, not because his hold was hurting you, in fact, it was so gentle that you weren’t sure what the hell he had done to his sharp and blade-like teeth. You protested because you didn’t understand what the hell he was trying to do by carrying you through the forest at top speeds. Once you crossed over the branch, Wormtail raised one of his small hands and pointed it towards you and Moony, shrieking as he gave you the win. Prongs was just a few feet away and he jumped over the finish line branch and turned to look at the now proud-standing Moony with a tired huff.
Moony left you on the ground and howled, a testament to his victory over Prongs and then he turned to you and barked «We Won!»
«You won» you replied, not even thinking it over.
He shook his head and pushed you with his snout letting you see you were standing right over the finish line and barked again «WE WON!»
At that point, you realised Moony was far more whimsical than Remus and shook your head with a slightly amused air to your features, then you joined his victory howl.
After another while of playing with the boys, you all seemed to be running out of energy, even Moony who seemed to run on endless batteries was starting to slow down his movements. The night was still dark, but judging by your probably skewed perception of time and the position of the stars, the night wasn’t going to last much longer.
«Let’s go back» Sirius baked.
Moony snarled at him as if he were angry about the mere idea of going back to his cage.
«You’re tired, you’ll feel better if you sleep»
Moony shook his head as if he despised the idea of having to go to sleep, almost like a small child who wanted to continue playing. He turned to you as if you could help him change Padfoot’s mind. You had been the one to start him in a playing mood, after all. But you were far too tired to continue jumping around with him, you were not used to pulling all-nighters as an animagus like the boys were, and your small muscles already felt sore from so much use.
As if the abuse you had given them for trying to keep up with the much larger animals was taking a toll on your body. It was much easier to just lay on Remus’ chest and sleep than to keep up with Moony’s whims, even if both were equally relaxing and fun. You opened your mouth to bark but a yawn came out instead.
Moony leaned closer to you and started whining, much like a hurt dog I don’t want to go» he barked in between whines. You wonder if he meant the forest or if he meant he didn’t want to turn back. It made you wonder if he knew he would turn back, in the same way Remus knew he would turn into Moony. If he was aware of his nature as a werewolf and if he felt so energetic because he knew he wouldn’t be around for another month or so once the sun came up.
You thought it was best not to ask him, it seemed like a rather delicate subject and you did not want to get your head bitten off for asking the werewolf if he knew he would be locked up in a human body for weeks until he came back again.
You wondered if it was the same thing for Moony as it was for Remus while he wasn’t transformed, if Moony saw everything Remus did in the same way Remus saw everything he did without being able to do anything about it. It didn’t seem like so, and while Remus and Moony seemed to be two separate entities, there was definitely something that connected them to each other, perhaps the potion Kless was working on would strengthen that connection, joining them together rather than dividing them in the way it did during the moons.
You yawned again and he nudged you with his snout, trying to get you up in the same way he had done for the race, «Sleep» you barked.
He whined again and Padfoot got closer, barking a few things that you didn’t care to understand, and after they seemed to reach an agreement both he and Padfoot went to nudge you «Let’s go back» Sirius barked, and this time around, everyone listened. You stood up lousily and trailed in between the two much larger dogs. Wormtail had crawled on top of Prongs and he was lying there as the stag walked carefully to avoid disturbing him. You were rather jealous, Wormy had gotten his good deal of sleep while you had to walk all the way back, then you remembered you had been the one to run headfirst into the forest as if tiredness was a state of mind instead of an actual fucking feeling in the muscles and you almost laughed at yourself.
Once you got back to the shack, you jumped on the bed and made yourself into a small ball, yawning once and then falling soundly asleep. You didn’t feel when Moony crawled on the bed next to you and placed his head on top of your back, closing his eyes as well. And you also didn’t see what happened afterwards.
Padfoot tried to get on the bed as well, which didn’t seem to bother Moony at all, but when he tried to place his snout close to yours, Moony snarled at him, baring his teeth and his hair standing on end, and expression so vicious that even Pads was taken aback.
He tried to get close again and Moony emitted a low growl «Away!» he warned.
«Friend,» Padfoot said, trying to get close to you again and Moony barked louder.
«Mine!»
«NOT!»
Moony’s growl got deeper, it was a miracle it didn’t wake you up at all and Sirius took a step back. Remus could live with seeing you and Sirius close, he would be lying if he said he never felt jealous or possessive whenever he saw you all over each other. He’d be lying if he said he’d never felt a sharp tug on his chest when he saw you kiss unexpectedly, not because he wanted you to stop, but because he yearned to join in. But Moony lacked the level of control Remus had gotten over the years.
Moony was more animal than man and Moony did not like it when you and Pads were all over each other. He could tolerate it if it was a game, but that was his Padfoot and his Vixen and they had no business sleeping next to each other if it wasn’t next to him. Was he overreacting? Probably. But unlike Remus, Moony didn’t care if he was overreacting and he didn’t care if he upset you or Pads by being possessive over the other. He didn’t care because he was the biggest, he didn’t care because he was the strongest, and he didn’t care, because he was the king. And as long as Remus was Moony, you’d have to comply with his silly little whims because, after all, he was still the scary werewolf that had once haunted your nightmares, only acting tame enough to play around with you all because he wanted to and not because he had to.
Eventually, Padfoot resolved to move to the other side of the bed and laid down next to Moony instead of next to you like he did all the time when you were cuddling. About half an hour later, you woke up after feeling a hand grip tightly at your belly, pulling you towards them. You turned around only to spot a very naked Remus, sleeping soundly. You looked at the old clock on the wall and barked to try and get him to let you go. If the clock was right, then you only had but minutes to get the hell out before Madam Pomfrey came to get Rem.
Since your barking didn’t seem to do a thing, you stretched your head as far as you could to lick his face, you had seen Sirius do it, so you thought it would work. As you stretched though, you felt your tail brush against his lower abdomen and you were so incredibly glad that foxes couldn’t blush because dear Merlin! A little lower and you would have been feeling the very private, and very exposed parts of your best friend. After getting rid of that initial shock, you stretched your head again and started licking his face.
“Little witch?” he asked groggily as he started to get up. And while you had cuddled with Remus –as Vixen– more than once, you almost always left before he woke up since you went to fly with the boys, you rarely got to actually see him in his barely lucid state. You licked again and he laughed, his voice was raspy, which made you wonder if it was just his raspy morning voice or if it was raspy because of how much howling he had done as Moony last night. You leaned closer to him and focused on a wound near his neck from where his skin had split open to let Moony out. You barked.
“It’s all right, Luv.” He said calmly, “It’ll heal soon.”
“Yeah, and we should go back now,” you heard Sirius say, he stood by the door and was brushing his fingers over his hair to get it to look less messy, both you and Remus thought it was adorable.
“You should cover up mate,” Peter said as he pulled one of the covers your games had dropped off the bed last night and threw it over Remus, covering his more private areas. He was immensely thankful for that.
“And stop hogging my girlfriend,” Sirius added, you had your small head on the crook of Remus’ neck and he was holding you rather close, just enjoying how warm you were and how deliciously you smelled, of moss and wet soil, of Padfoot and Moony, and most importantly, of Sirius and himself. If only he could cuddle you and Sirius every day like this, he would be the happiest man alive. Sirius, on the other hand, was a little cranky over the fact that Moony had kept Vixen away from him at early morning cuddles, he had already gotten used to biting your ear in the morning to wake you up only to have you turn back into your human self and shove him off for waking you up in such a crass way. He would then say something silly and get you to laugh. Sometimes you would even place a soft kiss on his lips as you climbed over him and out of the bed. He adored how domestic it was, something he hadn’t tried before, and he hadn’t seen it either, such simple acts of affection lifted him up immensely. He’d never had something like that at home.
You thought of turning back, to give Sirius a rather snarky remark when you remembered you were still lying next to your naked best friend and decided it was best to step off the bed before you were human again. And so you wiggled out of Remus’ grasp, who groaned in return.
“Stay a little longer,” he said with a pout as you tried to get out. You barked in response, something along the lines of «It’s late, Pomfrey will be here any minute now», not that anyone understood, neither of the boys were dogs anymore.
“It’s late, Moony,” James said as he walked over to the bed, took you from Remus’ grasp and dropped you in Sirius’ arms, who, by the way, looked absolutely pleased with himself now that he got to hold you. “You better get dressed or you’ll be naked by the time Pomfrey is here.”
Remus just groaned in return and covered himself with the bedsheets entirely. You were aware that Moony liked his hours of sleep, you also knew he got cranky if he didn’t, but it was surprising to see him act so childishly. Either the moon fucked him up real bad, or he just considered you already close enough to him to act however the hell he wanted when you were around.
“We’ll meet you at the infirmary before the train leaves,” Peter said and you barked afterwards, to confirm his statement.
Remus just groaned in response, something akin to “okay” but not quite it either.
Peter turned back into Wormtail and James placed him in the front pocket of his pyjamas before he took the cloak out of an old trunk in the corner of the room and covered himself, Sirius –and you for default– with it. That’s how you stepped out of the old raggedy room of the shack and back into the dark tunnel.
You thought it was silly how different the tunnel felt each time you’d passed it so far, the first time you had been running from the wolf, anxious, stressed and fearing for both your life and Remus’, the second time you had been walking with both curiosity and hope that your plan would be all right, and it had felt a lot longer than the first. The third time had gone in an instant, you had been running from Moony again, but this time you were diverted, since it was all a game and the two of you knew as much. The fourth, on your way back you had been exhausted, but the kind of exhausted that felt good. The kind you felt when you were a kid and you had played for hours and hours and your eyes were giving out, but you still wanted to continue playing. And now, being carried by Sirius as he and James walked alongside each other back towards their room, you felt so comfortable you might as well fall asleep.
And you did, next time you opened your eyes, you were lying alongside Sirius on his bed, curtains drawn and silencing spells clearly cast around them, since you couldn’t hear anything from the outside. You turned back into yourself and Sirius stirred on the bed, taking hold of your waist and pulling you to him. “Morning sleepy head,” he whispered in your ear.
You yawned, wondering what time it was as you turned around and leaned on Sirius’ shoulder. “We need to pack,” you sighed.
Sirius groaned in response, pulling you closer to him “Non, nous devons câliner.”
“Sirius…”
“S'il te plaît, Étoile“
You sighed again “The train is leaving at 3, what time is it?”
“Assez de temps pour que tu me fasses un câlin.”
“Ugh,” you said as you buried your head in his chest, he loved it, he too thought you smelled delightful. “You make it hard for me to be responsible.”
“Désolé.”
“You’re so not sorry,” you said with a smile as you shoved him lightly. You weren’t sure when it had been the last time you had cuddled Sirius. Just you and him, you missed it, even if it felt like something was missing from it. You then started drumming your fingers over his chest “It worked,” you added.
Sirius nodded, “It did.”
“Who would have thought, Wormy had it right…”
“You didn’t think it would?” Sirius asked as he looked at you with a frown.
“I had hope…” you responded with a shrug.
Sirius shook his head as he scoffed a laugh and bit his lip, of course, you would go through with it even if you weren’t 100% certain.
“Does that mean we have to continue doing the cuddle thing with Remus?” you asked then, a small frown forming between your brows.
Sirius was taken aback by your question, the three of you had gotten so used to it by now, that the idea of not doing it anymore seemed preposterous, for the three of you, since even Remus was thinking he would miss the hell out of it now that it wouldn’t be happening anymore. Moony had accepted you as part of the pack.
“I– perhaps we should continue it, if only for the next moon or so, just in case…” he said, thinking if that excuse was too silly to be believable. If you would see right through him like you so often did and instantly tell there were secret intentions behind them. Was he using you as an excuse to be close to Remus? To be close to both you and Remus at the same time? Was that so bad? Was he so selfish for wanting to have the two things at the same time? Boy and girl? Wolf and Fox? Remus and you?
Would he even get away with it? With being in love with you but having this pull towards his best friend that he just couldn’t quite grasp yet? Only that he knew he liked burying his face on Remus’ neck and he liked how much bigger he was in comparison and how strong he felt, but he also liked how much smaller you were and how much softer. Was there a worst possible time for him to discover he liked boys? For him to discover that he liked– no. He liked you.
You didn’t want the cuddles to stop either, even if you told yourself it was an excuse to be Vixen, even if you told yourself it was an excuse to be next to Sirius at night, that you certainly loved, even if you kept telling yourself that it was for Moony and for Remus’ sake, it would be a lie if you said you didn’t like laying over Remus’ chest and sleeping with his hand on your head, carefully brushing the back of your ears. Vixen adored Remus’ cuddles, there was no question about it. But perhaps, you were lying to yourself too, as much as Remus and Sirius were lying to themselves at least. It wasn’t only Vixen that liked the cuddles and it wasn’t only your animagus side that liked to be pampered.
“Yeah,” you responded, “just in case.”

Not gonna lie, if I was Orpheus, I just wouldn't have turned arou–
Did you hear that?
Eurydice?
Eurydice, are you still there?
Sorry, I trust you're there. That noise just startled me for a second there.
...
You are there, right? Sorry. Of course you are.
This is a long tunnel. My feet hurt... Do you think we can stop for a while? I won't turn around.
I promise.
...
I'll take that as a yes.
Do you know how much longer it'll take?
I... I don't know why I keep asking you questions. I know I won't get an answer. But you can give me all your answers as soon as we're home.
I'm so tired. Let's rest. Just for an hour or so.
I love you.
I won't turn around.
...
Do you trust that I won't?
Sorry, I just realized how often I keep saying that I won't. Do I really think you don't trust me? Do I not trust myself?
How long have we been walking? It feels like days.
I just... I hope it's over soon. I keep feeling like I see the light at the end of the tunnel but it's just my imagination.
But I won't turn around... I prom-
What's that noise?
Is that you?
Are you even there?
Sorry. Again. And sorry I keep saying sorry. Am I going insane? I know you're there. Right behind me. Just one step behind.
Has it been weeks?
I think my hair's longer than it should be.
Months?
Will we ever make it out?
I trust you're there. I trust you're right behind me. I can't hear you. I can't look at you...
I won't turn around. I promise.
...
I love you.
Eurydice?
I...
I won't turn around.
I won't.
I.
...
I don't think there's an end to this.
Should we keep walking?
Should I just...
I'm sorry, I can't believe I'm even suggesting that.
I won't turn around.
Because I love you. And I trust you're there...
I love you.
I can't see you. Or feel you. Or hear you.
How can I love you...
You're hardly there. I know it doesn't feel that way to you.
But I just... I won't turn around.
... I promise?
Has it been years?
When will this be over.
Do I even love you if I can't even bring myself to look at you?
Let me see you! I can't do this. Let me hear your voice, Eurydice!
Eurydice?
I can't... I won't...
Turn around...
Turn around?
How could I be so stupid?
But this won't be over until I do.
I truly believe that.
I love you.
Even if I never see you again...
Please understand, Eurydice. I'm breaking this promise out of love.
Please understand.
I'm sorry.
I'm turning around.
You're beautiful.

aquarium date ✩⋆。˚
Tumblr media
❛ ༉‧₊˚ featuring: childe, alhaitham, neuvillette, kaveh x gn!reader
❛ ༉‧₊˚ premise: on your first date, you and your new boyfriend visit the aquarium in the city. in tender moments like these, another side to him is revealed...
❛ ༉‧₊˚ genres: fluff, modern au
Tumblr media
「 as the ocean is never full of water, so is the heart never full of love. 」
childe suggested going to the aquarium today, and quite enthusiastically at that. you weren't expecting him to be the fish-loving type, but it turns out that he's a prolific ocean connoisseur who seems to be able to answer any and all of your questions about the pretty, exotic sea creatures floating behind the glass. you've never seen him this engrossed in anything before; his eyes twinkling with a youthful light that only ever seems to shine as brightly when he's with you. despite himself, he seems a little shy today, as if he's reluctant to hold your gaze, or your hand - either one. "wow. it's beautiful," you gasp at a glowing blue coral as it catches your attention.
"it is." you might've imagined it, but you're pretty sure he wasn't looking at the coral.
「 you are the only fish in the sea for me. 」
alhaitham was tough to persuade. you've wanted to visit the aquarium for months, but he claimed it's all a ploy for tourism boards to make profits and that any knowledge you seek is readily available in his library. but after seeing you with that look on your face - that look of pure and earnest begging that he would kill for - he had to relent.
his hand in yours, you practically have to drag him through the shimmering tunnels and pathways, a permanent scowl creasing his brows. you're about to give up when, out of the blue, he points to a dumb-looking fish with big, thoughtless eyes and says, "huh. looks like you." you playfully slap him on the arm, the touch of your hand on his skin turning his cheeks a bright shade of red.
「 ocean separates lands, not souls. 」
neuvillette is just glad to be able to spend his day off with you. "surprise me," he dared you, a cheeky expression dancing across his features. it's a rare sight to behold, a stark contrast to the stoic, uptight lawyer you see at work.
he looks peaceful as the two of you stroll down the winding corridors of the aquarium, schools of jellyfish passing you by. a group of tourists attempt to squeeze their way through, prompting his hand to gently push against the small of your back as he brings you closer to the wall. you feel his breath on your ear and begin to count the baby sharks in the exhibit before you.
「 our love is as deep as the ocean. 」
kaveh is a romantic at heart. he may have been frivolous and flighty before he met you, but you know in your heart that his playboy tendencies have all been left in the past. usually, he has a knack for incessant chatter and gossip, as well as the occasional grand profession of love for one of his "bros" that always ends in fits of laughter from everyone in the room. you thought him to be pretentious, boisterous, and brash.
but lately, as you've been spending more time with him, you seem to reveal a special part of his soul that only yours has touched; a protective, sincere kaveh that the crowded aquarium has no effect on. "it feels like we're the only ones here, does it not?" you tell him, beaming. "i rather enjoy being alone with you." and he takes your hand with his.

Author's notes: It's a tough one this week and that will be the remaining theme as we enter these last few chapters but there's light at the end of the tunnel, I promise!!
Tumblr media
It was another new day and Omega, now back in the plain grey uniform, had come to terms with her predicament now and was growing more accustomed with the daily routine of the vault. She woke up as the artificial light encompassed the room and her cell door opened.
She had given it a while, but she’d decided that now was the time to plan not only her escape, but the escape of all the kids here. And she would find you in the process. But, to do that, she needed the kids to know that they could trust her.
Omega walked out into the room and approached the young female Iktotchi with her old straw Lula doll. “Hello. I’m Omega.” She said warmly.
“I’m Eva.” Eva replied, a tad shyly.
“What’s that?” Omega asked about the hologram in front of Eva.
“A game. They want us to play them.”
Omega glanced to under the tabletop to see a drawer. She opened it and brought out a case filled with coloured puzzle pieces, each of a different shape. “I like your doll.” She said as she fiddled with the pieces, hoping the comment would help Eva feel more at ease around her.
Eva clutched the doll tightly. “Dr. Karr gave it to me.” Eva turned off her game as she said, “She’s the only nice one.”
That gave Omega a flicker of hope that perhaps her words had had more of an impact on Emerie than she’d thought but she followed Eva’s concerned look to the glass windows above to see the hordes of scientists lurking and staring down at them, “Are they always watching?”
“Yeah. The droids too.”
“That’s Jax.” Eva pointed to the green Mirialan that had answered Omega’s question before she introduced the others. “Sami, and Baryn. This is Omega.” She said to the three of them.
Omega nodded to the Pantoran girl holding the Tarlafar baby. “How long have you all been here?”
“They don’t like it when we talk to each other so much.” Sammi said nervously.
“And if you cause problems, things only get worse.” Jax added mournfully. “Come on, Sammi.”
“Don’t worry. You’ll get used to it.” Sammi said dully as she followed Jax to another table.
Getting used to it was not in her plan, but she’d bide her time. Omega carried on arranging the shapes in front her, but her mind drifted to you- if they were all to play games, she had to anxiously wonder about what kind of games Hemlock had in mind for you.
--
“Good morning, Emerie. What’s on the schedule today?” You croaked with forced enthusiasm as the door opened. You already knew the answer, but it was the same question you’d asked every time since Hemlock’s plan for you had been enacted that first morning after you’d arrived.
Emerie swallowed tightly as she walked in with the troopers. You look particularly bad today- your cheekbone was purple, and the swelling hadn’t quite gone down yet and the cut on your lip was still open and oozing and she was sure your ribs weren’t doing much better after the beating you took yesterday. “Dr. Hemlock wants you back in the training room.” She said, hoping she didn’t let her discomfort slip through.
The reprieve from the uncomfortable position and biting metallic cuffs was always short-lived because it was instantly replaced by the cruel, pinching grip on your upper arms.
You were pulled to your feet, and you bit back the groan that threatened to spill from your lips as your sore and tired body protested the action. You watched Emerie walk over to you and take your blood sample. “And then I’m assuming we have our regularly scheduled session with the good doctor afterwards?” This was the only part of the routine that varied. If you weren’t taken to that room, you remained in the cell and had more rounds with the interrogation droid and honestly, you welcomed the training room days because that was a pain you could cope with more.
“I… believe that is his plan, yes.” Emerie said, shifting her eyes from you as you were marched past her.
“Don’t look so sad. After all, you’re part of a great scientific adventure.” You remarked over your shoulder as you were led away.
Right… somehow that didn’t feel so good anymore. You had attempted to sound satirical, but you were too weak to convey it effectively so the genuine dullness and pain in your voice was the only thing Emerie had heard. She shook the counter-productive sympathies away and headed to process your sample before she went back to the vault.
--
You stayed still as you let the trooper tie the blindfold over your eyes- you were used to this by now too. It was only after that was done that you were shoved into what you assumed was the training room that was always being referenced.
The blindfold was Hemlock’s way of keeping the secrecy element of this room intact. Plus, he claimed it was a way to see how your Midichlorians reacted when channelling the Force in a threatening situation because without your sight, you had to use the Force to guide you more.
“You know, for someone who claims to be sophisticated, you sure do like seeing me get beaten up.” You called out, knowing he was somewhere observing this whole thing. The response, however, came in the form of an injection in your neck and your entire body seized up- this was an unwelcomed change. “What-” The internal effects were instantaneous and all too recognisable. Dread and fear started to squeeze around your chest.
“An alteration to my methods. I wish to study how you handle both the physical and mental strain when meeting them together, rather than tackling them separately.” Hemlock explained as he nodded to Scorch to leave the room after the injection had been successful. He then gestured to the four operatives to come into view. “Begin.”
You stood unsteadily on your feet as that familiar haziness and fogginess set in, but you found strength in the Force and pushed it away to focus on the other threat that was about to happen.
You sensed the bodies around you.
There were four of them.
Each one of them were poised and ready to fight.
You parried away the first series of but a strong kick from someone else landed against your still injured and bruised ribs. Winded, you tumbled back a few paces.
“I want you to remember Deveron.” Hemlock began.
You couldn’t help it; the memory of that first meeting was as clear as day in your brain and the warmth the nostalgia brought you felt as though you were right back there. No, snap out of it, don’t let him twist these memories for his own gain. Knuckles grazed the side of your head as you managed to duck just in time but the pain that shoving away the memory was all too real.
“I want you to remember the Reek stampede.”
Your back stiffened as the emotions of that day and what it had meant overwhelmed you but clearing your head quickly, you anticipated the punch to your jaw and took a half step back to avoid it, but you weren’t fluid in your steps and setting yourself again left your stomach open for another onslaught of blows.
Hemlock quashed his own irritations at the lack of progress and kept pushing, though the language he had to use now left a foul taste in his mouth but it was for a greater purpose so he could make do for now, “I want you to remember every bonding moment with Clone Force 99.”
“I want you to remember the first time you met Omega.”
“I want you to remember Kamino and afterwards when you and Hunter told each other your… affections for one another.”
You choked as the oxygen was snatched from your lungs as pushing away those beautiful memories brought with it a different but just as crushing kind of pain. You didn’t manage to stop the series of punches that landed on your nose and mouth this time. The harsh taste of iron flooded behind your teeth as blood dripped down the back of your throat and from your nostrils. You hastily spat it out but there was a steady distracting deluge of blood leaving your nose now.
“You can feel that happy again. I’m allowing that for you. I have them here and you can be back with them all again. Omega is safe too.”
You deflected the kick to your thigh but fumbled avoiding the kick to your back as you felt yourself growing more passive under his words. He sounded so genuine, they really could be- no, it was all fake. He didn’t mean it. It was a false reality.
“You can feel that all again. They’re right outside and they’re waiting for you.”
No, no one was waiting for you. You avoided the strike that was intended for the back of your knee and questioned in a breathless panic, “Where are you getting all this from?”
“Tech has been most informative, and I’ve learned all sorts about you. He wants to see you again.”
That broke the illusion, and it was where he slipped up. You already knew Tech was dead, you were so certain of that and so his lies to that matter had no effect. You weren’t sure how he knew all these references but at least you felt your focus coming back more as you smoothly avoided and parried away a series of jabs and kicks from your attackers.
Hemlock noticed you gained more clarity after he said that, evidently there’d be no way to convince you of that fact without giving everything away, so he went back to the original tactic. “Don’t you want to be with them again? They’re your family, are they not?”
The impact of the statement sent you tripping backwards of your own accord. Your recovery was slow, and you barely managed to avoid the punch to your cheek and your chin took the follow up blow.
“You hear them calling for you.” Hemlock taunted as he watched you go between fighting with yourself and the attackers surrounding you. Your strength was something to be admired but he needed it to work for his purposes and for that, you needed to break.
You could, you could hear their voices, they were calling your name, but they sounded distorted, something wasn’t quite right with them. It couldn’t be them; Hemlock would never allow for such a peaceful thing.
You blocked the oncoming punch but a shove to your chest sent you stumbling backwards.
“Don’t you wish to go to them?” Hemlock maintained the scenario as he observed you.
Yes- no, it wasn’t true! You fought with your own brain before another strong punch to your jaw distracted you from the internal battle and you sensed the follow-up kick coming for your stomach which you dodged.
“You only need to join me, and I’ll promise you’ll be reunited.”
No, no you couldn’t do that. They weren’t here, he was lying. They- This time, you felt the tip of a blade slice through your clothing and across your skin. You yelped in pain but before you could react, a kick to that wounded area sent you sprawling to the ground, and you contorted in agony as a combination of fists and feet stamped on your side and the fresh cut there.
“Enough.”
Upon Hemlock’s command, you immediately felt the bodies above you stop but all you could hear in your mind were the warped and falsified voices of your family and you hated it. You longed to be around them again, you longed to talk to them again, and you knew it wasn’t possible. “Make it stop, make it stop.” You whispered frantically as you clutched your head.
Hemlock gave you that relief. He needed you as clear-headed as possible for the next session in order for his tests to be the most effective and for the results to be an untainted as possible. “You can no longer hear them. You know that you’re back in the training room.” He told you.
His words sank in, and your breathing evened out.
The mental effects of the dosage began to fade but only enough to make the physical pain you were feeling more apparent.
Hemlock crouched down next to your beaten body. “Such unnecessary suffering. It can end, you need only accept my proposition.” Hemlock offered as he wiped away the blood secreting from the various wounds on your face.
The offer always got the same response from you, “Go to hell.” You wheezed as you slapped his hand away and braced yourself against the ground. You gingerly sat on your knees and pressed your hands to your side in an attempt to stop the steady flow of blood leaving the cut.
Hemlock only chuckled mirthlessly. “Oh, I believe you’re already there. And we’re not done yet.”
Your throat tightened with fear as you heard the threatening promise in his words.
The images and sounds you’d been subjected to still remained faintly in your head as you were harshly tugged to your feet. Your feeble struggles against the hold the troopers took of you had no impact as you were pulled from the training room, but you didn’t have the strength to hold yourself up properly, so your feet dragged behind you.
Hemlock avoided the spatters of blood dripping from your body as he walked just behind.
--
Rampart paced irritably across the filthy and decrepit landing platform, “Where in the blasted galaxy did that pirate abandon us? And why are you keeping me here?” He directed his question towards Hunter.
Hunter didn’t so much as glance up from the datapad as he replied, “You’d prefer we take you back to that Imperial labour camp instead?”
Rampart sighed, “We had a deal. I already told you what I know about Tantiss.”
Hunter angled himself to face Rampart this time. “You’ll get your freedom when we get the exct coordinates to that base.”
Before Rampart could argue further, the sound of an approaching ship interrupted him.
Hunter made sure to push past Rampart’s shoulder as he went to go meet Echo.
Echo came down off the ramp and clasped Hunter’s hand in greeting.
“Nice work.” Hunter complimented as he took in the new ship Echo had acquired.
“A stolen shuttle is the best I could do on short notice.” Echo said. “The supplies we need are aboard.” His face hardened as he saw Rampart. “You really think we can trust that hydrosnake?”
“I can hear you.” Rampart scoffed pointedly.
Hunter half-turned back to Rampart. “No, but he’s our best chance at finding them.”
His brother may have been putting on a convincing front, but it still wasn’t his usual ‘put together’ nature- something just felt off. Echo hesitantly started to ask, “And… how are y-”
“Fine.” Hunter replied roughly.
Echo figured now was not the time to push the matter further, so he simply nodded and turned back for the ship.
Hunter followed Echo on-board.
Crosshair hit Rampart’s back with his rifle to get him to move. Was it necessary? Probably not but he found the displeased look on Rampart’s face at the action rather amusing.
Wrecker shoved Rampart down into one of the seats. “Now, start talking.”
Rampart groaned in exasperation. “Oh, how many times do I have to explain it? Hemlock put safeguards in place to keep his base’s location a secret.”
“But you’ve been there before?” Hunter said, his frustration at Rampart’s persistent evasiveness making his tone more aggressive than
“Any ship going there must first dock at Imperial Station 003 in orbit over Coruscant where the coordinates are transmitted directly to the navicomputer.” Rampart explained.
Echo pulled up the hologram of the station. “Well, his intel about the orbital station checks out.” He agreed reluctantly. “But I can’t confirm the rest of his story.”
“Do you think I’m lying?” Rampart said with an offended scoff.
“Yes.” Crosshair and Wrecker said at the same time.
Hunter analysed the map, “Once we reach the station, we can find a ship departing for Tantiss and pull the coordinates.”
“We’re going to need Imperial clearance codes.” Crosshair said.
“Got that covered.” Echo confirmed.
Rampart interrupted the proceeding with a chuckle. They made is sound so simple, yet their naivety was astounding. “Unlikely. Those codes change every rotation.”
“Which why we’re not waiting around.” Hunter responded impatiently.
“Even with a stolen shuttle and clearance codes, you can’t expect to walk onto an Imperial station completely unnoticed.” Rampart pointed out.
“But you can.” Crosshair countered.
“And we’ll be your security detail.” Hunter added on.
“You just walk us right onto the station.” Echo rounded off the brief by chucking Rampart an Imperial uniform.
This was never in the arrangement. “You cannot be serious.” Rampart argued.
“You were an Imperial before. Impersonating one should be easy enough.” Hunter said unsympathetic to Rampart’s unease.
Rampart supposed he better get on board with this quickly or he’d be landing himself right back on Erebus but there was still one small issue that had to be rectified at once. “I can’t wear this. It’s a captain’s uniform.” He pointed to the rank markings on the top but all he received in response was a series of blank, uncaring faces. “I was a vice admiral.” Surely, they had to understand how improper this was?
“Well, you’ve been demoted.” Echo replied bluntly.
“I hate clones.” Rampart muttered to himself.

Omega sat in the cot in her cell as Emerie kneeled in front of her.
Emerie reached for her hand. “It’s time for your sample, Omega.”
“The other kids. Where did they come from?” Omega asked as her blood was being drawn.
“I don’t know. But they are well looked after here.”
“I’d like to believe you.”
Emerie withdrew the vial and placed it in the small storage slots that came from a hidden compartment in the walls.
Whilst she was distracted with that, Omega sneakily stole a sharp implement from the testing kit and slipped it up her sleeve.
“And… is she being well looked after?” Omega noted the way Emerie made sure to avoid her eyes as she tidied up the equipment.
“I’ll be checking on her soon.” Emerie replied, using her words carefully and she left before Omega could ask any more questions and headed upstairs to join the other scientist on the observation level.
Omega watched her go and she let her mind drift to worrying about you before she focused on the task at hand. She’d make sure to see you soon.
--
“Letting Omega intermingle with the specimens in unwise.” Dr. Scalder advised as she saw the girl join one of the tables.
Emerie paid little attention to the objection. “They’re engaging in the activities I’ve provided to keep their minds active. Besides, they are under our watchful eye.”
“That didn’t stop her from causing problems in the past.”
“I’m the chief scientist. I will run the vault as I see fit.” Emerie said definitively. With that, she left the room to go join Hemlock next.
--
“How often do the droids take our vitals?” Omega asked covertly as she pretended to play with the puzzle game.
“Twice a day. After meals.” Eva informed her boredly.
“What about the troopers? Do they ever come in here?”
“Only when we cause trouble.” Jax informed her.
“Jax tried to escape once, but he didn’t get very far.” Eva revealed.
“There’s no way outta here. We’re never going home.” Jax said with a sad sigh.
Well, that wasn’t how she was going to go about this. “Want to know a secret? I escaped from this mountain before.”
All of them perked up at that.
“Really?” Eva gasped.
“How?” Jax asked as a follow up.
“I had training. And I wasn’t alone. Know what else? I’m doing it again, and I’m taking you all with me.” Omega said confidently before she moved the box aside to show them what she’d been working on. “Look.”
All the kids gathered round to see what she’d created.
“It’s a layout of the vault.” Omega explained before she labelled each section of the improvised diagram. “This is where we’re sitting right now. These are the walls. These are the tubes in the walls the droids use to transport our samples. I need to get inside and see where they go.”
“Only the droids can access those hatches.” Jax said.
Omega messed up the puzzle piece layout to avoid attracting attention and subtly revealed the tool she’d snagged earlier. “I can get them open. I just need them not to see me.” She glanced up to the observation deck.
“Won’t take them long to notice you’re missing.” Jax pointed out.
Omega simply gave an unphased smile, “That’s okay. I like a challenge.”
--
The blindfold was whipped off you as you were brought back to your cell, but you had no time to adjust since you were hastily tied up again.
Hemlock waited until the cuffs were back on and you were chained to the wall again. “Bring in the droid.”
Emerie entered with the droid that had the serum ready to go but came to a sudden halt as she took you in.
There was no ignoring your freshly bloody and beaten appearance but that was the norm now.
What wasn’t the norm, however, and it was the element that caught her off guard, was the still distant and glazed look in your eyes that tended to follow as an aftereffect of the interrogations.
“Dr. Karr?” Hemlock queried as he saw the sudden and unusual reaction.
Emerie fumbled over her words slightly, “Am- am I late, Dr. Hemlock? I… thought you had business in the training room first?”
“No, you are right on time. I merely… adjusted our technique.”
“Sir?”
“Come, Dr. Karr, you know that the pursuit of knowledge and getting results sometimes requires that we alter how we go about our research and that includes our interactions with specimens.”
What he’d done clicked with her then and suddenly the idea of putting you through, yet another round so soon felt like a very bad idea. “Should we not wait longer? If her body needs to recover more, this session could-”
“No, our methods need to get more aggressive. This is the new approach. Do you have a problem with that, Dr. Karr?” A firm challenge behind the softness of his tone.
Emerie snapped out of it, “Of course not, Doctor.” She handed Hemlock the datapad with the questions and scenarios that seemed to get to you the most. She put the monitor on you and connected it to her own datapad. She hated watching this part the most, but Hemlock had charged her with taking your samples and monitoring your vitals during this, so she had to stay.
The electronic warbling from the approaching droid always sent a cold rush of fear through your heart. You knew it was pointless to resist but the way your body instinctively tried to get away from the needle couldn’t be helped.
You inhaled sharply as it pricked your neck and that groggy, yet detached bodily sensation swiftly overcame you once more.
Hemlock released a content and easy sigh, “Now, today I think we’ll go with your dear Sergeant Hunter.”
“No.” You groaned as you already started to pull against the chains. “Not him.” You pleaded as your resistance crumbled away. You closed your eyes as you were helpless to what was to come.
Hemlock ignored you, “Do you feel that heat, that burning pain in your body?”
You had to conserve what fight and strength you had left so you allowed yourself to let those words take hold but what you couldn’t do was allow him to use Hunter to get to you in this way.
You felt the fire course through your veins and your body seized up with the intense pain it brought. You tugged against the chain, but it brought you no relief.
Satisfied that he had a hold on you again, Hemlock kept the torture going, “That agony, that burning pain that you’re feeling that feels like every nerve is on fire? Like your very being is being burned from the inside out? He’s feeling that too. As it gets worse for you, it gets worse for him.”
Hunter’s senses, he wouldn’t- no, he was safe. He wasn’t in pain. You told yourself as the burning in your own body intensified under Hemlock’s words.
“You can hear his cries…”
And you could. You heard Hunter screaming out your name. Screaming, pleading, begging for your help. They raged in your head, and you needed them to stop.
You yanked against the chains and your breathing came in the form of short, sharp pants and your body heaved with the effort of fighting against the serum’s effects and Hemlock’s voice.
“He’s calling for you. He wants you to make it end. Don’t you want to help him?”
Yes, you’d do anything to help him. You could join Hemlock, you’d do that for- no, stop. You told yourself.
“He’s in pain, he’s begging you to help him.”
“Hunter…” You rasped with a broken cry.
“He wants you but he’s hurting. And it’s because of you.”
Tears escaped your shut eyes and slid down your cheeks.
“I can end his suffering, just surrender to me.”
Yes, surrender and save Hunter- no, you’d never hurt him, and Hemlock wasn’t either. It was a lie. You thought internally as you continued to strain against your confinement so that the words wouldn’t take root.
“I’ll make it stop. I’ll let him hold you.”
Yes, that’s what you- No. Hunter wasn’t here, he couldn’t possibly be here. You reminded yourself as you tossed your head from side to side to rid yourself of the security that idea brought you… that made you all the more susceptible to Hemlock’s voice and his suggestions.
You had to push it away. You inhaled sharply and groaned, and you knew you’d succeeded when the pain came raging back again instead.
“Sir…” Emerie interjected timidly. She didn’t like the way your vitals were looking right now.
Hemlock raised his hand to quiet her and kept his attentions fixated on you. He’d seen a subtle change in you, a willingness to cooperate that hadn’t been present before. He needed to get back and now he knew the way to do so, “Don’t you want to feel his comfort once more?”
You thrashed against the chain and violently shook your head as if you could physically get rid of the images being created in your head, “No, it’s not real, it’s not real!” You cried as your entire body convulsed in both mental and physical agony.
“Oh, but it is…”
“It’s not.” You whimpered, but your conviction faltered for a moment as Hunter’s image entered your head and the comfort it brought you felt so real.
“And you can see him…”
No, remember it was a trick. “Stop!”
“Dr. Hemlock-” Emerie attempted to interject again as she kept an eye on your rapidly deteriorating vitals but again, he gestured to her to stay silent.
Hemlock continued his torment, “You can go to him…”
“No, I can’t! He’s not here, he’s not here!” Saying the words aloud was the only way you could fight against both your physical captor and the one in your mind. You were uncaring of the way the cuffs dug in and rubbed the skin of your wrists raw as you writhed in pain.
Hemlock noted your distressed reactions, but it didn’t matter to him, he could see this was the way to break you and he was almost there. “Just give into me and he’ll be yours again.”
“Stop!” You begged through hoarse and strained breaths.
“Dr. Hemlock!” Emerie urged more strongly this time as she saw the way your body was collapsing due to the strain of resisting the serum’s effects. If he went on for much longer, you wouldn’t make it.
Hemlock glanced at Emerie’s datapad and saw the minor cause of her rather ill-timed and inconvenient anxiety. He ground out a sigh and relented. Her interruptions would only hinder things. He stopped and allowed Emerie to take the droid away and monitor off.
Hemlock waited a few minutes for you to stabilise and come back to the present moment again. You were a formidable adversary which is why he knew he had to have you in his ranks and that meant altering his methodology further. “Increase her injection level. We go for longer next time. No interruptions, Dr. Karr.”
Emerie clutched her datapad tight to her chest and, without clearly thinking it through, started to protest the order, “Dr. Hemlock, her body can’t handle-”
“I know what she can handle, Dr. Karr.” Hemlock said sharply before he crouched down to your level and brushed his hands through your hair before he tucked his fingers under your chin. “Unless you wish it to stop. Why suffer more? All you have to do is join me.”
Your body heaved with each distressed pant as you made yourself meet his eyeline. “Go to hell.” You spat with as much venomous spite as you could muster. You managed a tired, half smirk of your own as you saw the flash of frustration behind his eyes.
Hemlock inhaled and exhaled a deep sigh to calm himself. “See it done for the next round today. Be sure to take her blood. We’ll still need records of how her M-Count reacts to each technique.” He directed Emerie as he past her and left the room.
“Yes, sir.” Emerie said quietly before she approached your side with the sampling equipment and injected the needle into your hand. She gulped as she saw the new dark red bloodstain on your clothing and the fresh blood leaking through your clothes that was now forming a small puddle on the floor. She feared what would become of you if that wound went unchecked. “If you just joined him, it would stop. You-”
“I can’t, Emerie.” You said through gritted teeth as you pressed yourself against the wall and closed your eyes. You ignored the stinging and dripping wound on your side and allowed yourself to drift off into nothingness because that was the only time you found peace now.
--
“We’re approaching Coruscant.” Hunter informed Echo as he came to see how he was getting on burning the paint off his helmet like he’d been doing for himself and the rest of their armour pieces.
Echo lifted his helmet as he heard the words. “All the armour’s been stripped. But we’re still not gonna blend in.” He tossed Hunter’s now all black helmet to him. “You really think Rampart can pull this off?”
Hunter caught it but didn’t put it on right away. He stared at it and his mind drifted back to a very different time.
He remembered back to his squad’s first official missions during the war, back when they’d all wanted to blend in.
But it had soon become clear that that wasn’t an option any of them wanted to follow. Establishing their own stand-out colours had been a significant moment, it hadn’t felt like it then, but it was.
Then they’d only grown more into the squad that they were today. The squad that owned who they were and the differences that came with that.
A tradition that had carried on when Echo joined.
And when you’d joined.
And when Omega joined too.
He recalled the days of Ord Mantell and when Lyra had changed their traditional red and black colours to the hues of blue, red, yellow and orange. It had marked the end of an era but also the beginning of a new one.
He’d remembered the pride and affection that had swelled in his chest that day when he’d seen that his colours had mirrored yours.
But now all those meaningful colours were gone. And the memory of that would be something he’d hold on to.
Rampart’s indignant cough at Echo’s words as he emerged from the refresher pulled Hunter out his thoughts. “I beg your pardon. I didn’t just make it to vice admiral on looks alone.” He had to admit it, it felt good to have his hair and beard no longer be a tangled mess and he relished being back in proper uniform again, even with an inferior rank.
Hunter said nothing, he only turned and went to the pilot’s seat and put through the transmission coming from the station.
“Rho-class shuttle, we have you on approach. Please identify.”
Echo activated the ship’s comm channel as he replied, “This is transport shuttle Alpha-44. Transmitting landing codes.”
There was a series of beeps as they all awaited confirmation.
“You’re clear to land at docking bay 5-tac-02.” The technician permitted.
“We can’t stay docked for long.” Echo cautioned. “This shuttle’s bound to be reported missing soon.”
“Assuming we’re not captured or killed during this little mission, what assurances do I have that you’ll let me go?” Rampart interjected.
Crosshair stared at him. “You’re going to have to trust us. Just like we have to trust you.”
“So don’t mess this up.” Wrecker added sternly.
Rampart turned to the big clone, “Hmm. Mess this up? I know how to carry myself.” He said self-righteously. “You’re the ones that are gonna stand out like overheated Gamorreans.”
--
This ship docked successfully, and it had been decided that Hunter, Crosshair and Echo would form Rampart’s security detail whilst Wrecker staying behind to watch the shuttle.
Before the four of them disembarked, Hunter caught Rampart’s shoulder and angled Rampart’s body towards him. He ignored to disgusted look on Rampart’s face at the action and began his warning, “The Empire betrayed and imprisoned you. We broke you out. Remember that before you try and betray us.”
Rampart obnoxiously wiped the spot on his shoulder where the clone’s hand had been. “I’m here, aren’t I? Let’s get this over with.” Rampart grumbled as he led the way off the shuttle.
Crosshair and Hunter donned their helmets like Echo had done earlier and stepped off to greet the Imperial that had just walked through the hangar doors.
“Who is responsible for this vessel? It is not on my docking manifest for today.”
Hunter took point and stood in front of the officer whilst the others remained behind by Rampart’s side. He remained still and silent as the Imperial examined him, but it was taking more willpower than he’d expected to wait this inspection out. He didn’t have time to humour Imperial questions.
“What division are you with? These uniforms are not regulation. I asked you a question, trooper.”
Rampart decided it was his moment to step in now. He shoved past Hunter and addressed the officer, “My division. And my orders are classified. If you have an issue with that, Lieutenant, then contact Governor Tarkin.” Rampart felt rather smug as saw the name have the desired effect. That flash of panic followed by an immediate desire to comply from subordinates was a part of the job he had missed dearly. “Now carry on.”
“Uh, y-yes, sir. Sorry, sir.” The Lieutenant automatically straightened up and went back through the doors he had come from.
Rampart turned back to the clones and waved a hand towards the doors, “Shall we?”
--
Rampart led the way to the desired destination. “The control room is up ahead. We can access the station manifest from there.”
“Just do your thing and get us inside. We’ll handle the rest.” Echo said frankly.
The insolence he constantly received from these clones was getting to be a little much. “That’s ‘Do your thing, sir’.”
“I don’t think so.” Echo replied in a low, disapproving growl.
Rampart paused as they reached the guarded door and spoke to the two officers, “Troopers, you are relieved.”
“Captain?”
“Report to the barracks. You’ll receive further instructions.”
“But, sir, we just started our shift.”
“Perhaps you’d like to spend a few rotations in the brig for violating Article 15 of the Imperial standing order 10?” Rampart threatened.
The two troopers glanced at each other. “No, sir.” With that, they moved out.
The group of them made it into the control room but the technician was willing to be as accommodating or passive as others had been.
Hunter barely let him get his protests out, he stunned the Imperial but caught his body and laid him gently on the ground rather than letting him fall harshly.
Crosshair shut the door whilst Echo plugged into the system.
“This is taking far too long. Can you crack the encryption or not?” Rampart asked anxiously.
“I’m working on it.” Echo snapped, unplugging and pushing past Rampart to try another terminal.
“Hunter, I had to sideline an Imperial. Someone might come looking for him.” Wrecker said over the comm channel.
“Copy that. Have the shuttle ready to go.” Hunter glanced over at Echo as he heard a series of more positive sounding beeps.
“I’m in.” Echo confirmed as he read the information now on the screen. “A science vessel docked in Bay 8 is set to depart for Tantiss, and soon.”
“Let’s get to that navicomputer and pull the coordinates.” Hunter ordered swiftly.
“We can’t. The vessel is tagged for uplink after it launches.”
“Which means there’s no way to get the coordinates.” Crosshair deduced. “Did that slip your mind?” He directed the question to Rampart.
“You expect me to know technical details like that?” Rampart disputed.
Hunter wasn’t prepared to let this chance slip away. They- he- needed those coordinates no matter what. “Then there’s only one option left. We can’t extract those coordinates. But that vessel is heading to Tantiss. That’s our way in.”
“What?” Rampart questioned in disbelief. Surely they realised this was venture was now dead in the water.
“It’s the only chance we have of finding them and freeing those prisoners.”
Rampart sighed, there was that naivety again. “Science vessels have heightened security protocols. There’s no way you can all sneak aboard undetected.”
“But I can.” Echo volunteered.
“You can’t go alone.” Crosshair argued.
“He’s not.” Hunter said. “Once you’re aboard, find a way to disable the proximity sensors. We’ll follow behind, then attach our shuttle to the hull and hitch a ride directly to Tantiss.”
“Now, wait just a minute. This is not the plan I agreed to.” Rampart objected strongly.
“Plans change.” Crosshair sneered.
Hunter caught Echo’s shoulder as he passed, “They’ll monitor comms. So, we’ll have to go radio silent. Watch your back.”
The four of them left the room and split off.
--
Omega watched as the droid left and when it looked like the scientists above were not looking, she slipped into her room and used her tool to jimmy away at the wall panels.
She was successful in taking a few of them apart which allowed her to stick her head through the gap and take in the shaft of space behind the panels and was pleased to see there was room for her to manoeuvre around and explore what lay beyond the walls of the vault. However, as she her shoulder and more tumbled down, making more noise than she was comfortable with.
Omega knew she didn’t have a lot of time, Dr. Scalder kept a very keen eye and had probably noticed her absence and so was most likely already on her way down. She hurriedly tidied them back up and sat innocently on her cell’s makeshift bed as Dr. Scalder entered. “Hello, Dr. Scalder.” She said casually.
Dr. Scalder said nothing and cast her eyes around the room for signs that anhthing was amiss.
“Is something wrong?” Omega inquired.
Dr. Scalder only gave a mild hum in response before she walked out and left the vault to go back to her post.
Omega released a relieved sigh and rejoined the rest of the kids.
“Well?” Jax asked.
“Did it work?” Eva followed up.
“Uh huh.” Omega replied.
“What did you find?” Sammi asked quietly as Baryn played on her lap.
“Our way out.” Omega said confidently.
--
Hunter and the others ran onto the ship just as Wrecker was ridding the shuttle of the unconscious Imperial.
“’Bout time.” Wrecker grunted before he gently sat the Imperial down on some crates and placed his cap back on his head and joined the others again.
“Hunter, I’m inside the ship. It’s launching right now.” Echo commed in.
“Get those sensors disabled.” Hunter hastily powered up the ship and set it off for the pilot’s seat to get the ship in the air and in the direction of the shuttle Echo was on.
--
Using the droid transport chute had meant that Echo had successfully snuck aboard the shuttle leaving for Tantiss but where he’d run into trouble was in the form of the unnecessary delay caused by the trooper sent down to investigate his activities down below.
--
“What are you waiting for?” Wrecker asked as Hunter slowed the ship down.
“The proximity sensors haven’t been deactivated yet.”
Rampart- in his nervous state- had already strapped himself into one of the seats in the main hold. “This isn’t going to work. Their proximity sensors will detect us and shoot us down.”
“Relax. Echo’s on it.” Crosshair said to him.
--
With the trooper and his cover taken care of again, Echo was able to get back to work on disabling the sensors.
--
Hunter glanced down at his console as the beeping grew more incessant as it was indicating the ship ahead was getting ready to enter hyperspace.
“They’re about to jump.” Crosshair said, a hint of his own anxieties coming through now.
Hunter’s own resolve stayed steady. This wasn’t going to fail, he was getting to Tantiss, and Echo wouldn’t let them down. “Echo will come through. He just needs more time.”
“Which we don’t have.” Rampart stood up now and pushed past the other two clones who stood in the hallway just behind the pilot’s chair. “He’s probably been captured. Abort the mission.” He urged.
Wrecker and Crosshair only waited. This wasn’t their call to make or have a say on this time.
That wasn’t an option and no one, certainly not Rampart, was going to convince him that it was. Hunter kept his eyes fixed on the shuttle ahead and his voice was cold and unyielding as he said, “Negative.” He powered up the engines again and made for the bottom of the shuttle. He turned the ship upside down right as the console indicated that the sensors were down. He attached to the Tantiss shuttle just as it entered hyperspace.
They were getting those clones out of there.
They were getting Omega out of there.
They were getting you out of there.
--
“Oh, come on, Emerie. You’re killing me here, aren’t you a little early?” You moaned as you forced yourself up, wincing as the cut on your side felt like it ripped itself open more. It seemed like you’d only just finished the latest round with torture droid equipped with the new parameters Hemlock had set out and yet here Emerie was again.
Emerie found that she really didn’t like that that’s all you associated her with. She wanted to pursue knowledge and be known for her science, not hurting people. “I’m not- I’m not here for that.”
You just about managed to open your eyes but did a doubletake because you weren’t certain that what you were seeing wasn’t due to the blood loss and there was the possibility it was another one of Hemlock’s tricks. Getting to tell reality from hallucination was proving to be more challenging with each injection he put you through and this was one of those occasions where you weren’t sure what to believe because in your cell was Emerie.
Alone.
Holding a medkit and a flask of what you hoped was water.
“You’ve not been injected with anything.” Emerie could tell that’s where your thought process was heading as she knelt down next to you and pushed up the top of your uniform to examine the angry knife-wound on your side. Before she attended to it, she held the flask to your lips and let you drink from it.
The water cooled your sore throat, and the small act of unexpected kindness allowed the spark that Hemlock was doing his best to snuff out to grow more again.
You felt a few drips spill down your chin as she took it away, but you were too fixated on the way she was now attending to your injury to care, plus she’d seen you in far worse states.
“Why are you doing this? Why bother helping me?” You hissed in pain as she cleaned the wound and placed the bandage over it. You guessed the reason she hadn’t stitched it up or used any bacta was so that Hemlock remained unaware of the outside assistance, but you’d take any help you could get.
Emerie hesitated; she didn’t fully have the answer herself yet. “I don’t quite know but I do know Omega would want you to get through this.”
At Omega’s name, you felt a new surge of strength flow through you. “How is she?” You whispered.
“She’s fine. I’m doing what I can to watch out for her.” Emerie replied before she unscrewed the cap of the canteen again.
You huffed out a relieved breath. “Good.” You welcomed the final swig of water she offered you. “How long do I have?” You asked as she removed it and got the stuff together in order to leave it as though she’d never been here.
“About 40 minutes.” Emerie admitted, her voice solemn.
“Bring it on.” You said with a tight, pained smile.

I had my day to wallow, and I'm only making a personal post only once about how I feel mixed in with the advice I've seen circulating around me since there's enough doom and gloom energy to fuel a Sailor Moon villain for the next millennia.
We are not letting misogyny win. We are not letting racism win. We are not letting xenophobia win. We are not letting homophobia win. It feels that way and it's gonna suck. It's gonna suck ass for a long time. I have no idea if we'll see the light at the end of the tunnel in our lifetime, but we're not gonna roll over and let hate win. If we act like this is the end, then it will be.
There are people who are planning to pack their bags and leave. I get it. Do what you gotta do to ensure you and your family's safety and peace of mind. If you can, please get your vaccines before January, start on getting your passport, even if you currently can't afford to go anywhere. You at least will have the option to flee if need be.
However, there are many who do not have the luxury to leave. We should've been able to look out for each other with our government, but now we're going to do so despite our government. Download and buy physical every Queer/BIPOC media you can. Be it comic, mv, movie, animated short, etc. Safeguard your history. Support your communities. Blood related and chosen. Think globally; act locally.
It's a lot, so focus on what you can control. Grieve, but don't get lost in it. Find outlets for your sanity in art, gardening, writing, video games, watch parties with friends.
Don't let your love and hope be taken away. I'm luckier than many and I'm not leaving you behind. I'm supporting you in whatever way I'm able to the very end. I love you. Stay safe.
If I see comments on this saying why the new presidency is actually better for the country, "You're delusional", "Cry harder", "You're over reacting", etc, just block me back.

Kings & Queens
Pairing: Post-Outbreak!Joel Miller x Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: I saw a list of reverse writing tropes, one of which was "too many beds" which I thought was hilarious until my brain went crazy. So here's where my mind went when there are oddly... too many beds.
Word Count: ~900
Warnings: None! This could even be read as platonic.
Other stuff: No descriptors. It can be romantic or friendly. Choose your adventure.
To those of you who are reading this: Thank you! I know I haven't written in months. I have barely even been on here. I want that again, but mentally I just haven't been feeling like much of anything lately. That being said, I saw the trope and I had an idea and quickly scribbled this down. It is short, not my best work, and doesn't have much emotion, but I did it :) To those of you who might also be struggling, I see you! You'll get through this. I hope all my tumblr buddies are doing well. I miss you guys.
_________________________________
It had been nearly a year of patrols with Joel. A year of nasty buildings and hard rocky floors to take shelter for the night, a year of either taking turns on watch, or being stuck sharing the same sleeping bag. Or the same mattress. Your only reprieve was your nice bed in Jackson, which you knew was safe, and warm, and most importantly… yours.
Joel was… alright. You two were friendly at best. But for the most part, it was all business. He didn't like to talk much, and you became tired of receiving looks or grunts when asking about Ellie, or Tommy, or his former life. But you worked well together, you made a good team, and you trusted each other to stay safe. You had run into trouble before, and you always had each other's backs. Words were often left unsaid, but you both knew what you meant to the other.
So when you stumbled upon an abandoned shopping mall while scoping potential areas of left-behind goods, it was a breath of fresh air. Malls could be dangerous with so much ground to cover, and so many potential hiding places and dark corners for the cordyceps to fester.
But the mall could also be a light at the end of the tunnel. A plethora of abandoned items to loot and sell or keep for yourself.
After hours of digging through every nook and cranny, you managed to fill a couple of bags full of items, and planned to make it a regular stop on your raids. But as the time grew later, the long-broken clock didn't tick on, and the windows grew dim, you knew it would be an overnight stay. However, choosing a sleeping spot was becoming exhausting with Joel around.
“I saw a sporting goods store. They probably have some sleeping bags, or maybe even a tent,” you provided.
“Nah, we're indoors. I wanna sleep like I'm indoors,” gruffed Joel.
“Oookay. How about that old food place? I think I saw a conveyer belt in the kitchen, next to the oven! It looks like it was used to make pizza,” you chirped excitedly. “I bet we could set up some blankets and make it like a bed.”
“Look, I know that machinery and oven have been dead for years, but on the off chance there's some malfunction, that just seems like a Final Destination event waitin’ to happen,” Joel shook his head.
“Wow you're difficult..” you huffed. “What if we go into the old children's photography studio and make a fort! The walls are even painted to look like a sky,” you offered with doe-eyes.
Joel just looked at you before grumbling back a “no. My back would kill me. There's gotta be a bed in here somewhere.”
Upon finding an old, faded mall map, Joel studied it before picking up the pace with a clear destination in mind.
He came to a stop in front of “Royal Mattressty.”
You raised a brow before saying “royal… mattress-tea?? What?”
“It's a play on words. Royal majesty.”
“That's the stupidest thing I ever heard,” you rolled your eyes.
“No, no, it's because mattresses come in Kings, Queens, and-” he broke off at your grimace.
“You're such a dad!”
____
The two of you made your way inside, only to find nearly 100 beds. Memory foam, spring, water, reclining… the possibilities were endless.
“WOW!” You squealed, running from bed to bed. “There's too many beds. I can't choose!”
Joel stretched, moving to a bed near the back corner. “I'm gonna set up here for the night. Sleep where y’want,” he gestured.
Sitting on a few different beds, you finally settled on one. A perfect, firm yet soft bed at the far end of the store. It was against a wall, allowing you to still see the door and keep your back safe. Perfect.
____
But as the night ticked on, you tossed and turned. You weren't at your home in Jackson. This bed was nice… but it wasn't your safe, cozy cabin.
When you aren't home, you're with Joel. All this time you've been wanting space at night, but now you feel scared and alone. Even a bit cold. But Joel was over on his own bed, probably sound asleep. You wouldn't dare take that away from him.
___
Until what felt like an hour passed.
___
And then another hour…
___
Finally, it had been about an hour and a half when you gave in. You wouldn't be getting any sleep at this rate. Fatigue is a dangerous fate when you need to be alert in this world. So you swallowed your pride and walked over to Joel's bed in the far end of the store.
But he wasn't there…
You wandered back, a bit nervous, until you spotted him. Curled up on a mattress only a row away from yours, you saw him blink in the night.
“You moved beds?” you whispered.
“Yeah, there was a draft over there…”
“A draft? In a mall with no electricity and no windows in this store?” You asked skeptically.
“Mmhm…” he grunted, sleepily.
“Sure. Well… turns out there was a draft over in my corner too. Move over,” you nudged.
“Draft, huh?” He wiggled over, letting you in the bed.
“Mmhm…” you mimicked his earlier grunt, settling in next to him.
“Good night Joel,” you whispered.
“G’night,” he replied, pressing his body closer to yours in the king sized bed.
Maybe there is such a thing as too many beds after all.

TWICE - Reaction to S/O Cuddling A Plushie (Requested!)
A/N: We're back to two uploads a week since I'm trying to clear my WIP before December 1st! I want to take a small hiatus for the week before and of exams plus I can spend time with family and friends for a bit without having a bunch of stress and extra responsibilities.
Also, to the lovely anon that requested this since I no longer have that request - I am so happy that my works bring you peace and happiness. I know what it’s like to go through rough periods, trust me, I’ve been through my fair share. There is light at the end of the tunnel, and I promise the future will be so much better than your present. I can’t promise that the road will be easy, or that you won’t want to give up, but stick it out, okay? My writing will always be here for you to enjoy, and I’m so glad I could bring you some peace of mind during a rough part of your life. Wishing you all the love and joy that the world can possibly bring your way. <3

Tumblr media
100% teases you by pretending to be jealous
“Ah, well, I guess I’ll just have to find someone else to cuddle since you’re busy.”
She blushes like crazy when you pull her into your arms along with your plushie
“Yah, I was joking, baby!”
Completely unbothered by the presence of a stuffed animal
Happily accepts the cuddles, and she gives your stuffed animal a boop on the nose in approval
Tumblr media
She may tease you about it if you’re okay with it
“Do you mind if I hold you as well, or are you a little too… preoccupied at the moment?”
Otherwise she’ll wrap an arm around you and stare at you lovingly as you hold your plushie
“You’re adorable, honey. Have I ever told you that?”
Definitely does not notice until she’s in your arms and feels the plushie digging into her back
Tumblr media
“What are you poking me fo- Oh, it’s your plushie!”
Will apologize to said plushie or the guilt will eat at her all day
“I’m so sorry! I really didn’t mean to hurt you!”
Will hold the plushie along with you as long as you let her do so
Immediately pulls out her phone and starts taking pictures
Tumblr media
“Smile, my love!”
And then she sets the photo as her screensaver and your contact photo
Will want to get in on the cuddles with said plushie
“You’ll let me cuddle with the two of you, right?”
It warms her heart to see you happy, especially if you’re on edge a lot or have been going through a rough period
Tumblr media
She won’t disturb you as you cuddle in peace, but she may check up on you if your plushie is a comfort animal for your rougher days
“Is everything alright, babe? Do you want to talk about anything?”
She’ll happily observe you and the plushie from afar unless you invite her to join… who is she to say no to that?
“Of course I’ll join you! I missed you while I was at work all day, you know, and I like when we can just relax like this.”
Her heart internally combusts as her face externally combusts
Tumblr media
You’re too adorable for her heart to handle sometimes, but she rarely admits it
“I like seeing you happy with your plushie… it makes me happy too.”
Will buy you matching plushies for your birthday if you’re a plushie fan
“I know you like the plushie you have… but I got matching ones for us so you’ll always be with me and I’ll always be with you.”
Definitely teases you a lot and/or makes jokes
Tumblr media
“It’s only been eight hours and I’ve been replaced… I see how it is, then.”
You know she’s joking by the way she grins and laughs when you scoff at her.
Settles by your side and lays her head on your shoulder as you hold her hand while holding your plushie
A sweet, toothy smile breaks out on her face.
“I love you so, so much, and I hope you know that.”
Tumblr media
You are simply too cute for her to handle!
She tries to sneakily take a picture, but you catch her in the act.
“Sorry, baby! You just looked so cute with that plushie…”
Enjoys just being in the room with you while you cuddle your plushie because the sweet, soft vibes cannot be replicated when Chaeyoung is by herself
She leans against the doorframe and just… observes with a lovesick smile.
Tumblr media
Your child-like glee really comes out when you cuddle your plushie, and if you rarely show that side of you off, Tzuyu just wants to enjoy that part of you while it’s present.
“Do you mind if I join you, love?”
You invite her to sit next to you, and you place one of her hands on the plushie as she plays with your hair with her free hand.
She’s mostly quiet while enjoying the moment with you, but she will talk to you if you want to talk with her.

Weekly thoughts Ep 173-
Well i said last week that I'd definitely have more thoughts this week, but here I am again, kind of just empty headed as I start this. I was actually pretty excited for this episode, just because it's the first time we see Jericho undeniably as the villain, as well as his scion's first canon lines technically.
But I dunno, feedback lately is kind of killing my enthusiasm. I know the majority of readers are still enjoying the comic, but it's exhausting to see the negative comments increase, ranging from people just being disappointingly moronic about there being LGBT themes in the story, to people telling me the story is going down hill. To which... I'm sorry! But! How?! Like I'm trying to wrap my brain around it. I'm not immune to criticism, there are plenty of points in the story that I agree were not the best writing, but this is not one of them. I've seen comments ranging from "not enough is happening" to "things are only happening for the sake of conflict" and both of those points baffle me. How is everything that's transpired in the past 10 episodes alone nothing? Sorry, do I have to kill off ALL of the cast for it to be "something"? And as for conflict only happening for the sake of conflict???? I literally don't know how to respond to that. Conflict is how a story progresses. Should Rex and Jericho just have...hugged it out?? Should Jericho just have been like "Actually, you know what Claude, I think I do just need therapy. This world domination thing was a bad idea." Should Rex have, back when everyone was betraying him and joined the bad guys, been like "Actually, the systemic treatment of me is fair. I guess I'm just gonna go to jail now instead of going into hiding with these guys. See ya!"
I dunno. I've been SO sad and down the past two weeks, but typing this out I've progressed to angry haha. Mad at homophobes and media illiteracy taking away the pleasure I get from sharing this comic. In a venty way, to be clear. I definitely don't think I'll post this one anywhere else because I can see people saying I don't take criticism or something, but man. No. I can and I have. But the points made this week would make for a flat out bad and BORING story. And I'm so mad people just want my story to be so BORING because they just don't like facing negative emotions in a story. There will be a light at the end of the tunnel of this story eventually, but we're just in the tunnel currently. I'm not gonna hurry up the tour for everyone else just because you're afraid of the dark.
Raugh ok, I guess this wasn't actually much about the actual episode, was it? Ironic that the big villain monologue episode is where I finally kind of lose it and monologue myself. I guess for the sake of actually commenting on the ep...
Yes, I had lots of fun drawing this ep. I've been waiting a long time to have Jericho's scion finally "speak." There's also a lot of cracks showing in Claude that I'm glad people are taking note of. I've said it before, but Claude's development has been some of my favorite to write in the entire story, and we're still in his arc. Excited for things coming up for him.

there’s this horrible fucking sense of abandonment I see from leftists who live in purple or blue states whose lives didn’t change much at all during Trump’s first term and who expect that they’ll be protected similarly from a second. like I live in a state where we’ve had right-wing control for decades, for almost a century, and the federal government is the only thing protecting my very flimsy human rights and moving the needle away from extremism, and we have huge immigrant populations who will be vulnerable under Trump, and the public health situation will get worse, and that’s on top of his stance on Palestine. but because people live in safe little cultural bubbles where nobody actually thinks or believes the way Trump and Vance do they’re willing to abandon us. our votes aren’t going to flip our state blue this election, and the people who MIGHT flip blue are waffling because they care more about feeling proud of themselves than about our safety. what the fuck.
They're in a bubble and just have no contact with those of us in the real world.
The one thing I hope puts a light at the end of the tunnel is that there was a time when we thought Georgia would never become a swing state and would stay firmly red.
Your vote matters and does make a difference. Maybe it won't shift today, but in the long term you matter. Keep fighting, and keep going.
We're in this together.

Do you ever feel worn down by all the hate sysmeds perpetuate? I tend to have a problem with seeing the world as rather dystopian because of all the systemic badness in our society that seems to have no end in sight.
Sysmeds have such a chokehold on the discussion and pluralphobic singlets seem to be more plentiful than ones that aren't.
I know we're on the right side of history, I mean look a how transmedicalism was dismantled. (Sysmeds can whine all they want. There are similarities to trans issues and system issues when it comes to how sysmeds handle the discussion. This is said by a trans system. 😘😜)
Anyways, it just feels like there's no light at the end of the tunnel to turn the tides. Anywas, just some random thoughts. Thank you for reading.
Sometimes. But I don't think the dystopian view of society is fair. I mean, yes, things aren't ideal. But they generally are trending towards acceptance.
In 1977, Only 44% of people thought lesbian and gay people should be allowed to be hired as doctors. By 2019, this number rose to 91%!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Only 27% said they should be elementary school teachers.
Tumblr media
Now that's 81%.
Only 14% said they should be allowed to adopt children compared to 77% saying they shouldn't.
Now that number is 75% to 23%
Tumblr media
Progress happens slowly, and I'll admit that being on the right side of history is a small consolation to the people living through history.
But... I really do think we're going to be seeing progress for plurality snowballing.
As for the anti-endos... you look at the anti-endo venting blogs and the like, and you can see the seams starting to tear. You can see the anxiety in anti-endos at having mutuals turn to pro-endos. Or having their own therapists supporting endogenic systems.
When I first got to this website, the anti-endos felt in control. They had built up these powerful convictions. Their stranglehold over the community felt so strong.
Many of those have become pro-endo or at least neutral.
And now... these younger anti-endos here feel scared and desperate.
They complain that their servers are kicking them, about losing friends, about losing their "safe spaces." They've had to make multiple "safe space" blogs to house their hate because their bigotry isn't being accepted anywhere else.
I saw an undiagnosed anti-endo not too long ago complaining that their own older sibling, who was a diagnosed DID system, was pro-endo. And they whined to the vent blog anonymously that they didn't think they could "educate" their sibling on why endos are supposedly bad.
On top of all of that is the refusal to actually engage with the other side. While we're dropping sources left and right, they're hiding behind the block button every time someone presents them facts that contradict their worldview.
Anti-endos aren't going to admit it, but the sense I get from their community, at least on this site, is one that's desperately huddling together and clinging to their beliefs and hate while the rest of the world moves past them more and more each and every day.
We still have a long way to go.
But progress is happening constantly and our future is plural!

Question: I know each of you have had programs that are going now, and some that did not make it - and that is complete B.S., by the way. [Audience cheers, Jared mouths thank you] Are there any other projects that are coming up that you can discuss? 'Cause we all know we see on Facebook and things that season 16, they've agreed, they've agreed, and like, okay we all wish that was true, but what can you tell us about future projects?
Jared [pointing at Jeff]: Well, he's set to direct season 16 of Supernatural.
Jeff: [nods] In a heartbeat.
Jared: I - what do I aggressively have going? I have a few things that we're working on developing, but I think aggressively I'm leaving tomorrow for Fire Country and [audience cheers, JDM and Jensen clap] It'll be - you know, I'm just doing a couple episodes, it's not like I'm joining the cast forever, it's a couple episodes, go see our buddy Max, and see some of the friends and family from Supernatural that I haven't seen in four years? So I can't wait to go play in their sandbox. I guess, I guess - I haven't talked to Kripke in a month but he said he was writing something for me, so we'll see if I can go hang out on The Boys.
Jeff: Are you working out? Are you getting ready?
Jared: I'm not.
Jensen: Are you doin' the squats?
Jared: No, I'm not.
Jensen: Are you repping 405?
Jared: No, I'm not.
Jensen: She is [referring to a previous questioner who asked about weightlifting].
Jared: I know. [points to that fan] Body double, just borrow her fan [points to other previous fan with prop] do the leg lifts, and then you're my double. You just got hired. But yeah, aggressively I'm kinda just living it day by day.
Jensen: I don't have much to talk about.
Jared: How much time do you have?
Jensen: I'll try to drum up some work for ya. So it's - no, you know everything that's happening with me so my world is about to change here in about two weeks.
Jeff: Do you start in two weeks?
Jensen: Yeah.
Jeff: Holy smokes.
Audience member(s): Which one?
Jensen: I don't remember which one.
Jeff: The one on Amazon.
Jensen: [cracks up] Countdown starts September. And then we're off to the races, because I think there's gonna be overlapping with The Boys and then there's gonna be overlapping with Vought Rising and then there's and then it's all gonna start again. So it's gonna be pretty cyc-[draws circles in the air], it's gonna be that way for a while. I don't know what the light at the end of the tunnel is.
Jeff: It's, you'd be surprised -
Audience member: You're gonna break Amazon again, right?
Jensen: Either that or Amazon's gonna break me. I know one of the two are gonna happen.
Jeff: I've got my money on Amazon.
Jensen: You have insider information. Uh, what about you, anything [?]?
Jeff: I start something in September that I can't talk about. I don't know how it is with new projects, that we never can talk about, it's ridiculous.
Jensen: And then we do them and then we still can't talk about them.
Jeff: Yeah, yeah. So that and then - did anybody see a movie I did, it was on Netflix, and it did really well, called Postcard Killings? I'm gonna go in October and do the sequel to that, based on a James Patterson thing.
Jared: Email killings? What comes after postcard killings?
Jeff: Oh, I see what you did there. Email killings. Only I can't find the killer because I'm really technology [gestures wildly around his head] - like I can't figure it out.
Jensen: The files are in the computer!
Jeff: There's not a [?]!

the butcher of badwater; (yandere) sniper x reader [part 1]
i think we can all agree that mick is this deranged son of a gun that would rip into his enemies arms and tear their flesh off with this crazy look in his eyes. the community has come to this unanimous decision that mick is this crazy, insane, obsessive psychopath and to be honest, im here for it. here's a little blurb of mick being everything i just said with a tad bit of possessiveness. enjoy this hot mess!
Tumblr media
red. his eyes were red. his cheeks were flushed red. he had tunnel vision on the man in front of him, blindly swinging his kukuri machete in all directions and angles. growls erupted from his vocal chords as he put more effort into each swing directed at the younger boy. high pitched screams of fear strained from scouts vocal chords at his limbs dodged every attempted strike of mick's knife. mick's words were unintelligible and hard to understand through his gritted teeth and yells.
"hey man!" scout yelled, jumping around in circles, looking back at the light glimmer off the blade of sniper's blade. "i-i-i i didn't do anything wrong!" he continued to stutter. nonverbal grunts emitted from micks' throat in an attempt to cut and/or stab the younger boy.
"i'm gonna fuckin' cut you up." the australian snarled under his breath solely concentrating on jeremy's exposed calves as he jumped around like he was being kept on an never ending loop. he knew that if he got to his legs- the thing that made him most valuable to the team would show him a lesson. one he wouldn't forget no matter how many countless times he sent him through and through respawn over and over again.
"boys! you're gonna get yourselves hurt!" dells left hand was cuffed around his mouth as he yelled, just beyond a rock far away to keep out of danger but close enough to witness the two mercenaries. a cold beer was in his in his other gloved hand. he was worried but he knew scout could easily outrun mick- hell, he could outrun anyone on the base. he's been able to outrun pyro and their flame thrower before which was arguably extremely impressive. maybe not you if he had taken your hairbrush or anything else you loved dearly, he wasn't ballsy enough to snatch your panties or bra.
he had contemplated it seriously a few times in the past before.
"you reckon i go down there and break all of that up?" engie looked over at you, his eyebrows furrowed in concern. he turned to you, with his hand over his shoulder, his thumb extended pointing to the two men. you noted how it was odd seeing him without those goggles. "i mean- what if he hurts him? then we're without our fastest guy." an audible scream of pain ripped through the air of his previous pleading and begging. his voice wasn't distinct nor comprehendible but his vocal chords emitted agony as. scout was sitting on the ground holding his left leg in the air. a big chunk of skin was hanging off his leg. it was graphic and grotesque.
as soon as your eyes saw this you inhaled sharply, making a "sss" noise through your teeth as you quickly looked away. yet, that image wasn't going to escape your mind anytime soon. covering your temple with your hand in an attempt to shield that sight away. it was already burned into a memory in your brain.
"oh darn, well, there goes our fastest guy." engie took a long sip from his drink, his eyes glued on the bloody scene no more than 30 feet away from him. the sounds of jeremy screaming at a dog whistle pitch and sobbing. "i reckon i'm gonna grab medic so he can fix him up. you want me to grab you a cold one from the freezer inside? there's one more newcastle. i don't know how you drink those nasty things, (y/n)." dell rambled on, nudging you in the arm, likely in an attempt to soothe your mind away from the trauma you just witnessed.
"dell- his skin was hanging off his fucking leg. did you..." you paused still shielding your wide eyes from his gaze. "did you see it?" this was your first time around one of these incidents, yes, the two of them could get in fights about nothing important where a verbal threats were common place for them sometimes accompanied with a gun drawn or a knife pulled out.
"it ain't nothing. i seen the whole leg off." sighing, he took another sip from his drink. "well, i'll be back!" he sounded annoyed. bothered that this was a commonplace event, he felt like he had to babysit them sometimes. you could hear his footsteps going farther and farther away. now, without dell in your ear you could hear more of their conversations from where they were.
jeremy was pleading for his life, repeating micks name.
mick?
jeremy never called him by his real name. it was always was "snipes" or "buddy".
you shot your head up to a scene right out of a horror film. scout looked like a mangled mess with a chunk of skin sliced off and his face beet red. mick was on top of him with the same bloody kukuri.
"dont. fucking. talk. to. my. woman. ever. again. cunt." mick screamed that birds would've flown off a telephone wire if there was one nearby. he was so loud it the noise made you cringe. between each word he brough the blade down into the poor boy's lower stomach, releasing this disgusting squelchy sound. the slushy sound sounded like when you were wearing boots and your sock got wet on the inside of the shoe. it was horrific. to you, this was amplified.
you gasped then covered your mouth. trying to make any sense of this. without thinking you ran towards them. you stumbled over a medium sized rock almost face-planting into the bright dusty new mexican sand littered on the ground. you were yelling anything to direct micks attention to you and away from mutilating scout.
"stop! stop! stop doing that!" you managed to grab both of snipers shoulders as he crouched in front of scout with blood covering the both of them and the ground surrounding the both of the mercenaries. "you're gonna kill him!" you shouted into his ear. this only caused mick to go even more crazy. thats what he wanted to do, sure, he knew he would be sent to the respawn in the base but just finally being able to cut into him to teach him a lesson was worth the lecture guaranteed from engie and/or medic later that evening.
you were crouched behind him, struggling to stay on your haunches and you rocked mick's body back and forth in an attempt to get him off jeremy. unfortunately, your much smaller frame wasn't able to do much despite your best attempts. you huffed trying your absolute best to get a hold of the much stronger and taller figure in front of you.
a few meek squeaks and a laboured breaths exited his mouth. you heard a thud from infront of mick, you couldn't see what it was due to micks' frame being in front of you but you could only assume it was scouts lifeless body hitting the ground.
dead.

One thing that Stover does in the RotS novelization that gives me heartache is how he shows that both Obi-Wan and Padmé, the two people closest to Anakin, misunderstand him and how he works, specifically how and when he worries about things, with devestating consequences.
Anakin is so generally reckless and impetuous, it gives the impression that he lacks all caution and forethought. He doesn't seem to care about consequences and goes after what he wants. He just dives straight into things and is willing to risk his life to do what needs to be done for the people he loves.
This attitude would cause Obi-Wan and Padmé no end of worry about him, and bias them toward assuming he's like that all the time. This means they both don't fully understand the danger that he's in.. from himself.
There are two passages that are pretty close mirrors to each other. The first is Padmé and Anakin discussing the baby:
She shook her head. "What are we going to do?" "We're going to be happy, that's what we're going to do. And we're going to be together. All three of us. "But-" "No." He laid a gentle finger on her lips, smiling down at her. "No buts. No worries. You worry too much as it is." "I have to," she said, smiling through the tears in her eyes. "Because you never worry at all."
This line is immediately followed by Anakin's nightmares, and the juxtaposition stark and clear. He does worry. He worries deeply about the future and keeping those he loves safe. He doesn't want Padmé to worry, because he wants her to be happy, so he internalized all the worry for himself.
That exchange is echoed only 22 pages later when Obi-Wan is warning Anakin about a strange meeting requested by the Chancellor, and so presumably the callback is intentionally flagged for the reader:
This is a dangerous time to be a Jedi. Please, Anakin—please be careful." Anakin tried for his old rakish smile. "You worry too much." "I have to–" "—because I don't worry at all, right?" Anakin finished for him. Obi-Wan's frown softened toward a smile. "How did you know I was going to say that?"
This reveals that Anakin assumes that Obi-Wan is going to offer the same caution as Padmé, almost containing on a conversation like Obi-Wan is Padmé. They both are a figure that loves him and wants him to be safe. Obi-Wan confirms that he was going to say it, as though it's been said a hundred times, a long-standing point of contention.
Anakin then displays a level of self-awareness not often attributed to him.
"You're wrong, you know." Anakin stared off through the morning haze toward the shuttle, past the shuttle—toward 500 Republica, and Padmé's apartment. He said, "I worry plenty."
Obi-Wan and Padmé both want Anakin to be more concerned about consequences and his own health and happiness—they want him to be responsible and measured in his choices, they want him to care about himself. They assume (wrongly) he cares about the galaxy at large, about collateral damage, because they think they know he has a good heart.
They just want him to worry a bit more about his own life and safety, so they would have to worry about him a bit less.
The problem with this is that Anakin is already distracted with worrying about getting what he wants, to the point of tunnel vision and lack of concern for collateral damage. He's very worried about keeping what he loves safe—the problem is not worrying, it's that his priorities are messed up and deeply selfish. Neither Obi-Wan nor Padmé really grasp this, and it makes them blind to what is about to happen.
Stover as always is an expert at twisting the knife. We the audience, helpless to interfere, see the wreck coming, we see Anakin's dimming light and waxing greed, but Obi-Wan and Padmé can't. They're shielding themselves from the truth, their vision warped by how much they love him, and it's all so deeply tragic.
